CorSport: Fonseca settles on his centre-back partnership for Lazio clash

Paulo Fonseca has decided that he will stay loyal to Fikayo Tomori and Strahinja Pavlovic as a partnership at centre-back when the Rossoneri face Lazio this weekend.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News), the Portuguese coach is not going to make any rash decisions with his team selection in the wake of the defeat against Parma last weekend.

Milan have started the season poorly with a 2-2 draw at home to Torino and then a particularly unimpressive 2-1 defeat at Parma in which the scoreline could have been worse.

In the Torino match, Malick Thiaw started alongside Fikayo Tomori. Against Parma, Thaiw was dropped in favour of Pavlovic getting his first start for the club.

The Serbian had a tough game but he was no worse than other members of the defence, and Fonseca is expected to show confidence in the 23-year-old and start him again alongside Tomori who seems to be the first-choice defender.

The decision has been made easier by the fact that Thiaw has an ankle issue and may struggle to have any involvement at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday evening. That would mean that there is one less defensive option on the bench for Fonseca if Milan are defending a lead.
