CorSport: Gimenez a concrete target for Milan after ‘several’ meetings – the price tag

AC Milan are looking to sign a striker ahead of next season, following Olivier Giroud’s departure, and several targets are on their radar. Santiago Gimenez is one of them and he’s indeed a concrete one, following ‘several’ meetings with the club.

Giroud has said goodbye to the Rossoneri, making his final appearance in the friendly against Roma yesterday, and a new era is now upon. The likes of Joshua Zirkzee and Benjamin Sesko are both at the top of the wish list, but there is another name to keep an eye on as well.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera), Santiago Gimenez is a concrete target for the Rossoneri after having had ‘several’ meetings with the club. Coming off a 26-goal season with Feyenoord, the latter have landed on an initial price tag of around €50m.

The cost would be similar to Zirkzee and Sesko, in other words, but it could still be an ‘easier’ operation for Milan to make. Zirkzee’s agent, for example, is asking for very high commission fees and the competition for Sesko is indeed fierce.

In any case, Gimenez is a concrete target for the Rossoneri and shouldn’t be forgotten amid all the rumours about Zirkzee and Sesko. The 23-year-old has impressed Geoffrey Moncada and his team a lot, but it remains to be seen if a move will be made.

    1. Marco van Basten, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Robin van Persie, Luis Suarez, Dirk Kuyt, Henrik Larsson, Julio Cruz, Ronaldo, Romario.

      1. Different times, different standards. The Bosman Ruling wasn’t yet applied during Van Basten, Rijkaard, Romario, Ronaldo, Gullit’s eras, so even “big teams” in “big leagues” didn’t generally have more than 3 foreigners. So most of the Dutch (and damn they were freakishly good during the 90s and 2000s) were in the Dutch league anyways.
Obviously it doesn’t apply to Suarez, Van Nisteloory, Van Persie,… but I think it’s been a while since a player came out of the Eredivisie and actually succeeded in the so called top leagues, unless a name slipped my memory.

      2. I believe jiminez is the best among all other names due to his technic and power not that he is in a week league.

      3. How are you comparing the level of the Eredivise in the past to today?!?!? And Kuyt and Cruz were not great strikers.

    2. Same garbage league that gave us Rijkaard, Van Basten, Gullit, Seedorf, Van Bommel, De Jong, Reijnders, Jon Dahl Tommason, Edgar Davids, Michael Reiziger, Patrick Kluivert, Jaap Stam, Winston Bogarde, Huntelaar? That same garbage league gave Europe Romario and Ronaldo as well, not to mention the hundreds of other legends to play in the Eredivisie like Luis Suarez, Wesley Sneijder etc. Maybe you should tell us what your countries league has given the world, dont disrespect the Dutch.

  1. same league we got Reinjer from and he performed extremely well in his first season.
give this management a break. most of this attack should come during the break in dec/january if the club performance is bad.

  2. Rumours rumours rumours. Every summer Milan is linked with everyone. I’ve stopped opening these kinds of stories, I’m just waiting for done deals

    1. It’s the same for all teams. Often the agents are behind the rumors too, to drive up the price tag and make their guy seem in demand.

  3. If only we could make this happen.
So much believe in this dude, but I doubt management is going to spend that much on one player.

A man can dream at least.
