CorSport: Ibrahimovic dictates terms for potential Milan return – the latest

By Oliver Fisher -

A potential return to AC Milan for Zlatan Ibrahimovic has gathered another new wave of momentum, with several papers writing about the possibility in the last couple of days.

This morning’s Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) is no exception as they address situation regarding the possible comeback of Zlatan. For over two months the Milan management have been talking with the Swede search of a solution, with repeated meetings too.

Ibrahimovic has already met Gerry Cardinale – the owner of Milan – twice, then the CEO Giorgio Furlani and the president Paolo Scaroni at different times in the past weeks. Milan believe having him back would be important to help support the coach Stefano Pioli and the squad.

However, the paper adds that Zlatan has not yet released his reservations. The fact remains that he stopped playing just five months ago and wants to enjoy a break after a long and successful career.

The 41-year-old is calmly evaluating what to do in the future, also because he has many entrepreneurial activities that he is now following personally. Milan did not impose a ‘deadline’ on Ibra, obviously, but hope to receive a response from him as soon as possible.

In what role could Ibrahimovic return? CorSport add that he would only accept an operational role, where he can decide and have his say on every aspect of the team, rather than just being a symbolic figure.

Ibra will not accept a return to Milan without putting his all into it, and on this aspect there are still many points to clarify. The Rossoneri are available to talk about anything to welcome him back home.

  1. Hmm. Ibra under Pioli as a player was one thing, but knowing Ibra, he’ll want a pretty major role in the management set-up. A team can’t have two managers. If he falls out with Pioli or Cardinale (which is pretty likely), the dressing room will become chaotic.

I could be wrong, of course….

    1. Exactly.

“In what role could Ibrahimovic return? CorSport add that he would only accept an operational role, where he can decide and have his say on every aspect of the team, rather than just being a symbolic figure.”

  2. Players of a high level want to ensure they have concrete targets to work on. Good luck telling Ibra we are only pushing for top 4 every year. Both him and Maldini don’t want to be figure heads they want stimulation and purpose so that they can be protagonists in the role. Coming back to be a motivator should be beneath him

  3. This can be a good or bad thing. It just depends on how much power he will have. This was the issue with Maldini who wanted more power and it didn’t work out.

So I think Milan should hire a sports psychologist instead because there’s no guarantee that Pioli will be the coach next season depending on the results and if another coach comes in they might not get along well with Ibra and the role he has in the club.
