CorSport: Jovic set for unveiling while hoping for San Siro debut

By Oliver Fisher -

Luka Jovic was the 10th and final signing of the summer transfer window for AC Milan, and he could make his debut in arguably the biggest fixture of them all.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan), Jovic will have his ‘official unveiling’ at a press conference tomorrow afternoon at Milanello, having had his first training session with his new team-mates yesterday.

Jovic arrived at Milan during the last day of the summer transfer window and was signed on a free transfer from Fiorentina. He penned an initial deal until June 30, 2024, but with the option for a further three seasons in case he convinces.

Jovic is carrying out his first training sessions with Milan, after immediately leaving for Serbia to represent his country once he had signed his contract. Now, he should be called up for the derby against Inter.

The fact Olivier Giroud is not in the best shape after his ankle sprain means that he could realistically make his debut. Jovic has already scored against Inter twice too: once for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europe League, and the other time for Fiorentina last October.

  1. I don’t know why but I have a good feeling about this guy. He stands to lose a lot if he doesn’t grab this opportunity with both hands. And where best to prove yourself than in a game of this magnitude. And also because I think he has the physical characteristics to deal with the backline of Inter (he can muscle his way around them), as opposed to Okafor who is more of a clinical ball player. That is now assuming that Giroud isn’t match fit. It’s a gamble worth taking.

  2. He had 13 goals and 5 assists for Fiorentina last season, which isn’t bad after what he went through at Madrid, then you have Okafor who had 10 and 5 in a lot fewer games and most from the bench. So we have a couple of backups who have a goal in them, but I still wish we’d have kept Colombo, he had the same output as Jovic in the league, albeit playing at a club fighting relegation. But hey it’s what he wanted.
