Rafael Leao has managed to build on his positive end to last season with some very good performances this term. In the derby, he was unstoppable and the renewal issue is even more evident for AC Milan.
The winger’s current contract will expire in 2024 and Milan have been in talks with his agent Jorge Mendes for quite some time. It’s proving difficult to reach an agreement, though, due to the high demands of the agent.
According to Corriere Dello Sport (via MilanNews), Mendes has made it known that they want a salary of €7m per year. Furthermore, from what has filtered, the €9m fine that has to be paid to Sporting could also be included in the equation.
There’s no doubt that Leao is a crucial player for Milan but the club now must take a stance with regard to the renewal. It will be a significant economic commitment, regardless if they will have to pay the €9m fine or not, but losing him for free would also be devastating.
