Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) talks about Loftus-Cheek who signed permanently from Chelsea in the summer for €16m plus bonuses and is already looking like a great addition.
The Englishman was already a target during the management of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara, but he arrived now long after the new duo of Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada took charge.
Loftus-Cheek has offered three excellent performances in the league against Bologna, Torino and Roma and already has two assists to his name.
One was for Christian Pulisic (another new arrival from Chelsea) against the Granata and the other was more indirect against Roma, when he won the penalty kick which was then converted by Olivier Giroud.
After many years at Chelsea where he came through the academy, Loftus-Cheek followed Fikayo Tomori’s lead swapping Cobham for Milanello and was tasked with helping rebuild the midfield after Sandro Tonali’s sale.
Now, the Italian seems to be a distant memory. Loftus-Cheek inherited the Milan shirt with the No.8 and he has already become master of the Rossoneri midfield. He has formed a good relationship with fellow mezzala Tijjani Reijnders, who came from AZ Alkmaar.
Now, after the international break, the derby against Inter and challenging Champions League matches will arrive where Loftus-Cheek can show he true ability.
He will prepare at Milanello for the coming games at Milanello because England boss Gareth Southgate did not call him up for the 2024 European Championship qualifiers.
That gives RLC an extra motivation though because he wants to regain a spot in the national team and potentially be on the field at Wembley on 17 October against Luciano Spalletti’s Italy.
