CorSport: Maignan unlikely to play for Milan again this season with Euros in mind

By Oliver Fisher -

There is a strong possibility that Mike Maignan has played his last game for AC Milan this season as he continues to battle an adductor problem.

Milan will try to end the season in the best possible way starting with the match against Cagliari tomorrow evening at San Siro, which is the penultimate home game of what has been a difficult 2023-24 campaign.

The final three games present the chance to earn second spot in the table and thus passage to the Supercoppa Italiana tournament in Saudi Arabia, but a lot of the noise surrounding the club is about the future and who the new head coach will be.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera), Marco Sportiello will probably be a starter in the last three matches of the season to allow Maignan to recover as best as possible from his adductor problem and be ready for the European Championships.

It was just before the game against Juventus last month when the issue occurred. The Frenchman was forced to withdraw from at the last minute after sustained an adductor strain during the pre-game warm-ups.

A couple of reports have since suggested that the Frenchman will soon reach a crossroads in his Milan career because of his contract situation and the fact that there are doubts about both his form and fitness.

  1. If any club give offer for him more than 40m I’d say just sell him this summer.

His contract expire in two years and he demand excessive amount of salary for a keeper that is struggling with injury and form.

  2. The season is over. Sportiello should just get the last games. Let Mike recuperate, and prep for the Euros. Come back next year with a better chance for a good season. With a new manager comes a new medical team.
