Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will likely leave Lazio this summer as his contract will expire next year. However, it will probably not be for AC Milan, even if Paolo Maldini reportedly had a deal ready before he was sacked.
Milinkovic-Savic has been linked with a Lazio exit ever since his breakthrough season back in 2016/17, but the demand of the Roman side has always been very high. This time out, however, the åprice tag is lower given the expiring contract.
According to today’s edition of Corriere Dello Sport, Maldini and Ricky Massara were in talks with Lazio over a deal for Milinkovic-Savic. The base was €20m and there were likely hefty bonuses involved, but the negotiation was put to bed when the duo was sacked by the Rossoneri.

Whether this is true or not is very hard to say. What’s certain, however, is that both Maldini/Massara and Milan have been planting stories in the media to improve their PR. This could be another one of those.

Maybe it’s a good thing they’ve been released from their obligations to Milan so they sort out peace in Palestine and Ukraine.

– The first you heard of this is not from a reputable source (Romano, di Marzio etc) but from CorSport
– This wasn’t in the news at all or reported by anyone until after they left; it still have no collaborating sources
– If that deal was in the pipeline/on the table, surely it would still be – why would Maldini leaving affect it to that extent?
Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I’m special. Or maybe Corsport are making stuff up for clicks. I guess we’ll never know…
If this is true then we’ll soon see SMS move to another team for 20 mil. Highly doubt it.

Well… Not that hard to believe that Maldini had an offer ready. But there was 0.00000% probability that Lazio would have accepted that offer.
