CorSport: Maldini sends clear message to Kessie and agent – “We must act following sustainability”

AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini chose to send a message to Franck Kessie and his agent before yesterday’s win over Sampdoria.

The renewal of Kessie remains one of the most intriguing situations to be clarified as the Ivorian midfielder has undoubtedly become one of the most important players for the Rossoneri, but his contract expires in 2022 and he wants a pay rise which reflects his importance.

This morning’s edition of il Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) relays the comments from Maldini, who wanted to send a message to the player and his agent when he was interviewed before the 1-0 win over Sampdoria last night.

“I think there’s a common line in talking about a renewal and a signing. We must act following sustainability, without going beyond certain lines dictated by the ownership. In the past, we have done it and we have paid for it.”

It is therefore a clear statement from Maldini that he is operating within the constraints that Elliott have placed upon him and the rest of the management, and it is certainly not a signal that suggests Milan are willing to bend and adhere to any request from the Ivorian.
