Stefano Pioli decided to field a 4-4-2 formation for AC Milan’s clash against Udinese on Saturday evening. The Rossoneri lost the game 1-0 and the formation had a role in that, as the midfield battle was won by the away side.
Rade Krunic and Tijjani Reijnders both struggled on the night, not helped by the fact that Yunus Musah and Rafael Leao pushed incredibly high. For large parts of the game, it was almost a 4-2-4 formation for the Rossoneri.
As highlighted by Corriere dello Sport (see photo below), the formation change resulted in a constant numerical inferiority in the middle of the pitch. Krunic and Reijnders didn’t stand a chance from the start, struggling especially with the counter-attacks Udinese had.
The tactical solution that was meant to help Milan, therefore, played into the away side’s hands instead and this cannot happen again in the upcoming games. PSG are up next and tactical mistakes like the one we saw yesterday will be punished immediately.
I’m not a licensed coach and even i knew that was a bad idea from the start.
To have a licensed coach use that, when there is no reason to, is very worrying.
That is no surprise,we knew (and wrote about it before the game!!!)what will happened with 2 strikers and Krunić in midfield!Desaster!2 strikers are of no use without balls…and dead wood Krunić is only capable of playing back.Even that he do terible bad.Tactical desaster!Why is he (who is total no use in team!)playing from start in formatio 4-4-2,and RLC not,or Adli who plays in very, very good form???4-2-3-1 with Jacine on 6,RLC and Tijani on 8…that would make midfield completely closed,where you get enough technik,runners,high players,and back up maschine for attackers!…..Rafa left,Junus right,Oli on penalty spot..Reijnders and Krunić in midfield against 5 midfielders from Udinese???Teater!And once again…waiting untill minute 60-70…then ….running all over the field(but first waiting till 70…)That is desaster for a team like ACM!!!Running starts with first second,not in 70.-th minute!!!!!!!!!!
