Japhet Tanganga of Tottenham Hotspur

CorSport: Milan and Atalanta on alert as Spurs make versatile defender available

AC Milan are keeping an eye on Japhet Tanganga’s situation at Spurs along with Serie A rivals Atalanta, according to a report.

Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via SportWitness) writes that Tanganga is an opportunity for some Italian clubs given that he is no longer a part of the plans at Tottenham, while he would not count as a non-EU player after the recent FIGC ruling.

The paper claims that Roma did have an interest in signing the 24-year-old – who has a contract with the London club until June 2025 – but it is Milan and Atalanta who are ‘at the window’.

Tanganga only played seven times for Spurs last season and he is not believed to be considered a big part of Ange Postecoglou’s vision, so a move to Italy could help him rejuvenate his career as it has for Fikayo Tomori and Chris Smalling among others.

Milan are perhaps interested because he can play either right-back or centre-back a bit like Pierre Kalulu.

  1. leave this Player if his that good why isnt he moving to an other topclub.. same story again and again since 2-3 Mercatos.. get an Italian guy

    1. Any ideas on whom? I really want to know what great Italian CBs are out there. Considering Francesco Acerbi still starts for the national team.

      1. Actually there isnt anyone that we can afford or who is good for Milan. I like Scalvini but he is too expensiv. I rather wanna say that we should focus on some Italian talented player. I rather prefer Lovato, Pirola than Tanganga. But theyre not good enough I guess haha

        1. Italians are typically to expensive, especially since they don’t fall under the tax privilege. International transfer strategy is the right choice atm.

        2. Oh don’t get me wrong. Tanganga is a huge NO GO for me. He’s a huge liability and you can’t have that in defense. I can only name some Italian leftbacks that are interesting, like Pellegrini. But as far as centerbacks… I draw blanks.

  2. I’d pass on this guy. He’s not really anything special. We need another signing like Thiaw I think. Or maybe there are some free transfers available

  3. Tanganga reminds me a bit of Micah Richards, in fact he’s exactly like Micah, “burst on the scene” as a young kid and then fell off a cliff, and he even had the same career trajectory, RB to CB to useless. Maybe Fiorentina will have him like they did Micah.

  4. Dont sign this japhet. Better try offer CDK swap with scalvini ( give atalanta 10-20% resale for scalvini in future ) or add some cash 3-5m euro + CDK for scalvini, atalanta interested with CDK . We can also offer caldara to atalanta free to smooth that transfer ( for scalvini replacement CB )
