CorSport: Milan have experienced centre-back in mind to replace departing Kjaer

By Oliver Fisher -

It has been confirmed that Simon Kjaer will leave AC Milan at the end of the season and thus the club will almost certainly sign someone to replace him, a report claims.

Kjaer arrived at Milan on a loan deal in the spring of 2020 together with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and this was made into a permanent deal after some good performances. However, his time is drawing to a close as his agent confirmed yesterday that the Dane will be departing in June.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera), Diego Carlos of Aston Villa could well be the name that Milan go for as they look to replace the experience and leadership that Kjaer provided.

It was thought that Carlos might be linked to the possible arrival of Julen Lopetegui as the new head coach given that they worked together at Sevilla.

However, the paper are claiming that he is still a target despite the widespread reports which suggest Milan have pumped the breaks on their plans to hire the Basque coach and are looking at other options.

Carlos is 31 years of age and he cost Villa around €31m but he is no longer an immovable starter under Unai Emery since the arrival of Pau Torres last summer. He does still have over two years left on his deal, however.

  1. Hope not. That dude is just a waste of money. Want an exp CB, get Ferrari from sassuolo. A cheap exp cb that can jump in when needed..but dont get carlos. His fee and salary are not worth the price. We’re supposedly focusing on development anyway. So why pay 3M for a guy who’ll flop anyway and get breadcrumbs in minutes played?

  2. Truly doubt we’ll get him. Has high PL salary, will cost at least 15 mill if we get a loan with obligation, and is 31 years old.

Management is far more likely to buy a player from another league with a lower salary and much younger (20-26 years old) and sell or renew after 3 years.

Also Kjaer was replaced by Gabbia, if a new CB comes who’s leaving?

    1. Gabbia and Kjaer are different cb profiles. then again kjaer and Carlos are also total different.

Gabbia is basically Diego carlos if he was any good. Which he isnt
