CorSport: Milan targeting three more signings – Chelsea and Newcastle duo on radar

The summer transfer window only closed a few weeks ago, but the start to the 2024-25 season has highlighted some gaps in the squad that the AC Milan management want to fix.

This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports that these first two months of the season have given Paulo Fonseca and the club some pretty clear indications in view of the January transfer window regarding areas to address.

In fact, during the current international break the management are already trying to begin the first negotiations, with two midfielders and a full-back the main positions on which they will work, given Ismael Bennacer’s injury and the lack of a deputy to both Youssouf Fofana and Theo Hernandez.

To strengthen the midfield, the Rossoneri are apparently thinking of two targets that have been mentioned before: Johnny Cardoso of Real Betis and Carney Chukwuemeka of Chelsea, both of whom were linked in the summer.

For the position of full-back, Kieran Trippier is a name that Geoffrey Moncada and his team are evaluating with interest, given his versatility. During his time with Spurs and with Newcastle United, the England international has played both left-back and right-back.

Davide Calabria’s contract is expiring while Alessandro Florenzi is older in age and seemingly cannot stay injury free, while an established deputy to Theo has been missing for a while now, so Trippier – who is 34 himself – could fill two gaps.

  1. Cardoso as it seems looks more like a one season wonder, while I like Trippier call… but we need more Italians… we can only register non-Italians only after we sell them…

RLC and Bennacer departures gives you 2 spots, but replacing them will need an Italian then…

  2. Please bring in Oumar Solet,he’s pretty solid and complete defender for Milan. He’s perfect for Milan. He’s free agent right now.Try to snatch him first before Udinese make it.

  3. FFS enough with the foreigners, do they never learn, we have a roster overfilled already with foreigners so we can’t fulfill quotas, therefore have less players available for Europe etc, it’s crazy we need homegrown and Italians and serie A experienced players…. absolutely mind boggling, we have enough foreign players already !!!!!

    1. Americans prefer diversity over anything else. So no space for Italians. I just saw a commander in the US air force who said he was fired cause he complained about the diversity hires not being good enough lol. Belive it or not they value companies higher over there if they have diversity so thats prob why Red Bird who is all about money don’t like Italians.

  4. Why are only linked with Chelsh!t players? Or man Utd and small clubs. Smh. We’re not at year zero anymore. I missed when we at least had a thought about Walker and Ake 🤷‍♂️

      1. I wouldnt say decades but you are right. Chelsea and ManU are such a mess at all levels that more often than not the players dont work out. It’s not because they arent talented anymore. It’s because they are a mess. Just a silly example, look at Jadon Sancho; He sucked at ManU, went to BvB and Boom. Puli has worked great for us, so has Tomori in a way. Kai Havertz is a good example from Chelsea. Heck, i even remembered Coutino sucking at Barcelona, then winning the UCL at Bayern.
It’s about the player fitting the team and the coach/management extracting the talent.

      2. I can remember at least 20 better in “decades”. You remember a guy called Kaka, 8M€? Pulisic can’t reach his level ever. And so on. He maybe the best signing in the last decade but not even that. Ibrahimovic for 0 was way better because Milan got back into CL and won Serie A because of that transfer and what he brought…

        1. Pulisic can shoot from left or right or in front of goal. He is only 26 years old and has 10 years in top flight. He is Captain and top scorer in the USA national team. Also top in assists. He has scored and assisted for the USA in the 2022 World Cup.
Already won Champions league for Chelsea. Chelsea would not have won the Champions league in 2021if Puli had not scored and tied Real Madrid in the run up to the Championship. He has speed and agility that is hard to compare.
What player in European top flight accomplished more and has more versatility ???

      3. Pulisić was going places and then he got injured and froezn out in šh*tsea.
Chukwuemeka and Cardosso are just 2 random players with jack sh*t to show for their career so far. They never were players that are going places

          1. maybe, but i also factored in contribution and consistency and the genral lvl of game.
Mike has been class A since day 1 with lapses now and then. Kalulu, all over the place or injured

  5. These 3 players are not good, it’s time for Moncada to go.

How about investing in Ricci and selling the locker room cancers?

    Oh wait he’s Italian nvm….

Plus we’ll buy 3 donkeys at 20mill each instead

      1. Casadei loan+option, Ricci, Trippier, and J.David…

RLC can also be used with Newcastle, they like big buff players and he’s also from England so Trippier deal might be way more beneficial.

J.David has 6 months left starting in January and if Fofana was 20M, under 15M can give us 3rd striker to compete with Morata and Tammy and the Canadian can also play Morata’s 2nd striker/N10 hybrid role.

And I pray the management manages to make Saudis agree to Bennacer at around 30M deal, we can use that money for Ricci.

  6. The clubs hierarchy needs to go. There was an opportunity to revolutionise the club but they lacked the vision and courage. The club needs an identity and to restore the heart and soul.
The fact Emerson Royal was scouted, bought and is playing is proof all levels of the club are guilty of flawed vision and mediocre ambition.
We could have got Conte, Allegri, or De Zerbi.
It was heart breaking watching Italian players moving to other clubs. I love Mike but he’s too injury prone. I would have swapped him for Donnarumma. Sold Tomori, Thiaw, Theo and Rafa and others to raise funds.
Imagine a backline of Bellanova, Buongiorno, Gabbia/Scalvini(once he’s recovered) and Calafiori.
Then Tonali and Ricci in midfield, Daniel Maldini as trequartista with Pulisic and maybe Akturkoglu or Adeyemi to replace Rafa.
Retegui up front if we couldn’t get Gimenez, Gyokeres, Sesko, David with Immobile as experienced back up.
Then integrate young players like Bartegashi, Zeroli, Liberali and Camarda.

Wishful thinking now, I know but this was within reason both financially and with player availability. It would have made us one of the most exciting teams and given us a solid foundation for the next 5 years.

Oh well, we’ll just settle for a top 4 spot.

  7. Trippier, really? Replace Florenzi with another guy that is over if he gets injured? I am sure they can find players that cost less in terms of fee + salary in Italy to cover LB.

  8. Wasnt Chukwuemeka one of the players in Chelsea who argued about taking penalties? He will fit great here lol. Its funny how Chelsea had a huge problem with players being profesional and now we are just bringing their problem here. No wonder this players don’t respect Pulisic, they are a group and they stick together since their Chelsea days.

  9. Trippier can run down the left side without getting dizzy, but he’s not a left back. The other two are unproven because they elected to join the Chelsea circus
