CorSport: Milan enquire about Asensio in Mendes talks but are put off by demands

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are intrigued by the potential opportunity to sign Marco Asensio on a free transfer but it remains a complicated idea, a report claims.

As reported by the Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Milan timidly inquired about potentially signing Asensio during discussions with his agent Jorge Mendes, given the forward is all set to leave Real Madrid at the end of next month when his deal expires.

However, the request in terms of salary is €6m net per season which is deemed very high, while commissions would be owed to agent Jorge Mendes too in the absence of a transfer fee.

A big opportunity like this will appeal to many top European teams who would most likely have no problem offering the salary he wants, but Milan seem apprehensive about the idea of making the Spaniard their second-highest earner after Rafael Leao’s renewal is complete.

  1. Big News that everyone knows that x or y player that has Jorge Mendes has agent we AC Milan are not gonna sign x or z even if they are free because Mendes wants huge commissions to himself!

  2. 6m might be worth it, but maybe not any higher. I thought the demand would be worse. This is a player with incredible pedigree and experience, still only 27 and plays RW. It would be a massive statement of intent from the club. Still, I get that it would totally undermine the idea of wage budget control, the Leao exception notwithstanding. Oh well, it is nice to dream sometimes.

    1. 6M would be worth it and should be – but alas we have Redbird as our owners and this will never happen unfortunately. The intent of these owners IMO is to make profit first. Then if we happen to win a title so be it. But I do not believe they will spend enough to make us a truly special team – like buying a established and consistent scoring striker and RW or signing a statement player like SMS. It won’t happen. It’s a shame because our core group is special and IF they would just add the pieces we need – we have a real shot at CL. But that is not the policy. Wage caps, youth and frugal transfer spending. This is what we are and have to deal with moving forward. If we sign Kamara, Arnautovic, Sportiello and a young player like Openda – I think that is the best of it unfortunately – and maybe a decent mid. That’s it. We have to lower expectations with these owners. Sad

      1. Feel the same right here, the team has such a huge potential with the right reinforcements here and there but redbird aren’t ballsy enough to risk hurting their profit margin

      2. Worth it for a player who has never been world class in his life? You sound like Yonghong Li and his crew, its being of those geniuses it took Milan 5 years to get rid of those debts

You love spending money so much you should be supporting a Oil rich club

        1. Sorry bro but you’re dumb if you think it’s got anything to do with that. If we look back at the first transfer window under Elliott even with the huge debt by the previous they pulled 100M out of their pockets to invest and then gain back in the future and thats something our current owners have to do if they want success, you can’t be so passive.

          1. *not saying Asensio is the perfect player for us though don’t get me wrong but investments from the owner have to made

          2. have you missed the memo of the 192m in losses posted just in 2020 or you think thats a big joke and we can just bribe our way out that?

          3. Do you not understand how we removed that debt? Good performances and investments is how and the investments paid off didn’t they?

          4. @Boulden did you miss the memo that we will make a PROFIT this year LOL….some fans are clueless. Well said @Gigi.

        2. LOL @Boulden. You apparently missed my point. Not surprising. You were prob one of the donkeys that said let’s go with Redbird and not Investcorp – but I digress lol. The point is we SHOULD spend on a consistent proven RW – and those make 6M if not more. Whether that is Asenio or someone else that is up to M&M – but we WONT because Ownership will not give M&M the funds to get anyone of that caliber. With a limited budget and no authority to spend 30-40M on a proven RW – we could do worse than Asenio. So instead we will be left with Messias yet again and that sounds like it would make you very happy LOL.

          1. You sound like one of those people who don’t care about who your owners are, you rather be owned by a Oil Nation and buy your way into trophies than do it the legit way. Bet you think Todd Boehly is doing an awesome job at Chelsea cuz he spends money lmao

  3. Commissions fee would be massive, due to free transfer. He is leaving Real because of big money, and Milan philosophy is much better than to risk with expensive players without first generating enough revenues to handle possible 1 or 2 “black” seasons without good serie a results.

    1. Yes it certainly is. While clubs like PSG will not have any issues on that matter. So let’s move on to another target for the RW department. I’d prefer someone that has enough experience in Serie-A under his belt, and of course, reachable. Someone like Orsolini.

      1. I don’t know, 6M for someone of his pedigree is quite reasonable demand IMHO, and possibly negotiable too. But of course, with PSG entering the chat, it’s no longer viable. Just thought that the dude wanna ‘feel important’ and be guaranteed a starter, which is what we can definitely offer.

But yeah, let’s put this story to bed then.

  4. Stop dreaming, his wages are high and this are the kind of players we sign when they are 35 and has little to offer, by then his wages will be down to 3 to 4m per year.

  5. We cannot win fight with EPL club for asensio. Dont waste time negotiate, just track another RW from moncada list
