CorSport: Milan could be ‘forced’ into defender search amid Newcastle Thiaw interest

By Ben Dixon -

Malick Thiaw has arisen as an interest of Newcastle United’s in recent days, and whilst the German defender would preferably stay at AC Milan if an offer too good to refuse arrives, they may have to accept.

The mercato has officially opened, and now the real fun begins as we see which clubs are really interested in signing any new players or if the interest is just window shopping, so to speak.

In recent months, Newcastle United have taken an interest in Milan’s defenders, and at their first attempt, they were given no positive signs, to their credit, they have returned, albeit with a different player in mind.

Now, the player touted is Malick Thiaw, who had a difficult season due to injury, but he is not for sale, but he has the same fate that several members of the squad share, if an offer that allows other opportunities arrives, it will be considered.

We know the Magpies’ interest is real after a report suggested there was a meeting held in England recently. As Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) write, if any interest were to materialise in a signing, the Rossoneri would be ‘forced’ to add another defender to their four-man shopping list, and it would be done with the view of ‘completing the defence’.

    1. Thiaw makes very bad mistakes and to be honest I would rather sell him until his value is high. Use that money on Calafiori since Bologna don’t want to sell any of their players to Juve. Thiaw is German, he would never stay in Milan for long, whether he failed or succeeded here.

  1. Forced to sell? Are they holding a gun to their head? They’re going to create a problem where there isn’t one for just few more bucks.

And if they sell, I bet his replacement will not be Buongiorno or Calafiori but someone like Diogo Leite or Maxence Lacroix.

  2. Forced to sell??? Why?
If an obscene amount comes in, then sure we might be “inclined” to sell but I thought we’re in a position to add a few pieces
