A report has highlighted just how far behind AC Milan are compared to their city rivals Inter when it comes to the amount that they are spending on player salaries.

Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (seen below) has a graphic which ranks all of the teams currently in Serie A based on the total gross wages that they will pay out for the 2024-25 season, and the only team below €20m is Lecce at €19.9m.

Up at the top end of the table, Inter are leading the way by some distance with €141.7m in gross salaries to pay out this season, while Juventus are quite far behind in second on €113.8m.

Then, Milan are in third on €96.6m, which means that they are over €17m behind Juve and a whopping €45m behind their city rivals the Nerazzurri. In fact, the closer gap is to Roma and Napoli in fourth and fifth, given they are on €87.9m and €85.7m respectively.

In a feature after the summer window we looked at how the business done has impacted Milan’s accounts from a squad cost perspective, and it has increased again compared to previous years, but many argue that wage budget is what is more congruent with success.

Calcio e Finanza also provided a more detailed breakdown of the Rossoneri’s salaries including the highest earners and the differences between net and gross.

    1. No, it doesn’t. Inter have one scudetto in 3 years for all that money and have huge debts. Napoli won the scudetto after slashing their wage bill and getting rid of stars.

  1. this is missleading tho. 20M of that is Lautaro. He is the highest paid player there by a lot. Comes 16.6M base and 3.7M bonus gross. Second highest is Barella with 12M base 1M bonus. Thats a big gap

  2. What is the point with this article though?.🤔
All this might do would reinforce the accounting scudetto by-word going around.

I would love to see another’s take on this for more clarity.

  3. I guess the extra money is what gets you to top 2 in the league each of the last 5 seasons bar one ie always in the Scudetto picture, a Europa League Final, a UCL final, Copa Italia winners x2, Super Copa winners x2. But ok….🤷‍♂️…
