CorSport: Milan handed huge boost in Zirkzee pursuit – terms of clause revealed

By Oliver Fisher -

Some interesting news has emerged this morning regarding the future of Joshua Zirkzee and more specifically the terms of his deal with Bologna.

We published an article as part of our early access on Substack last night which revealed the news that Milan are very much working under the radar to sign Zirkzee, with concrete talks having taken place.

Now, this morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera) has provided some important news on the Dutch striker. They claim that he has a release clause of €40m, which applies to everyone.

In the background remains the possibility that Bayern Munich decide to make use of their right of first refusal, but with Harry Kane leading the line they don’t really need another striker. It was thought only the Bundesliga side could trigger the €40m clause, but the paper claims otherwise.

Instead, the player’s clause has been extended to everyone meaning that any club can show up with €40m and land him, even if it should be remembered that Bayern have retained a right of first refusal on the player, as well as 45% of the proceeds on his resale.

A plausible scenario is that Bayern would evaluate the possibility of bringing him back to Munich and then selling him to another club, which is something that we mentioned as being a possibility in our update yesterday.

In this case the figure could even rise to €50m and the one who would gain above all would be the agent Kia Joorabchian, who has already managed to obtain the extension of the clause. Bologna will earn around €21m from the sale of their No.9.

  1. Sounds reachable. Especially with Saelemaekers as make weight. Although I still have reservations about him giving us the numbers as sole striker.

  2. I said this some time ago on this site. The release clause is 40 mln for other clubs, and half of that for Bayern. Especially given that the British media is saying that Sesko’s release clause might have reached 75 mln, Zirkzee is the best option that Milan can afford.

  3. Good and bad news. 40m is (should be…) reachable for us. But it’s very reachable for many others.
If it’s true it can easily go to auction (mostly on his salary) – in which scenario we are lost.
His will is key anyways, the best we can hope for.

  4. That is more plausible. If we really are that interested then we should go for him. I think we can convince because Giroud is gone, and he can be a starter. However, I’m still not entirely convinced. We have to remember this guy didn’t score anymore than our wingers. He has 11 goals if I recall. I’d rather get Sesko.

Would Zirkzee really do better with us than he did at Bologna? Thats a question we all need to ask. Because he would have to.

If he scored 20, it would be a different story for me.

I am hesitant. Anyways, we also have Saelesmaekers over there and we can cut a discount or just give him over with no fee in order to entice a deal, if Zirkzee is really the one we are going for.
