CorSport: Milan preparing to increase Fofana bid – the situation and figures

By Isak Möller -

The Youssouf Fofana saga continues, with AC Milan still working to convince Monaco after reaching an agreement with the player. According to a report, the Rossoneri will raise their offer for the midfielder in the coming days.

Fofana has been a key target for the Rossoneri since the start of the season, obtaining the player’s go-ahead, but negotiations with Monaco have been slow. Since the midfielder’s contract will expire next summer, the Rossoneri are hoping for a discount.

Monaco, however, are still asking for €35 as stated by today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews). Milan are now preparing to raise their offer to €20m overall, having arrived at the €17m region previously, but it’s far from certain that this will be enough.

Given that the pre-season is now coming to an end, the timing of Fofana’s potential arrival will not be ideal and this must be seen as a failure for Milan. On the other hand, should they get the deal over the line at around €20m, it will undoubtedly be a very good price.

Fofana is still pushing for the move, it should be noted, but Geoffrey Moncada has been unsuccessful in using his relations with Monaco to Milan’s good.

    1. Just grab a popcorn and enjoy your life. Be happy when the contract is signed. No need to take note of every transfer news.

    2. This funny side is watching Moncada and Co. negotiating with Monaco and saying that Moncada has good relations with Monaco is debatable?

20 mil euro should have been the first offer if not second, instead of showing your feeble hand once again.
Then Monaca and Furlani could have moved onto the next target and not waiting for the show to end
Furlani is very lucky that West Ham and others moved on with the help of Fofana wanting Milan.

  1. If it was me, ill give them 25 + 2 add ons and couple % for future sale (if i thought fofana is that good and important for us) monaco will get notice that is my last offer, take it or find another buyer

  2. €20m is a fair price for a player who’s contract is expiring next summer, but if Monaco still refused then this shows they are being selfish and they will lose him for free which i feel it will be a regret to them.

In as much as i want Fofana to be signed, we should move on if they don’t agree to the price.

    1. The problem is Monaco boss felt disrespected by Milan cause we offered them 12mil at first. They were willing to take 20mil back then which yes is fair. However it is not just about the money now. Maybe they should also apologise as well. Cause trust me, if the owner of Monaco decides he wants to hold a grudge, he wont sell even for 30mil. Those money mean nothing to him.

      1. I mean, do you know this to be true or are you reading this from the same “news” sources that everyone is getting the next rumor from? Confirmation bias I say. Who knows what is going on. All we know is that Milan is offering X and Monaco wants Y and they’re not yet in agreement.

David’s point is 100% correct. Give this one more week and then move swiftly for another DM, because we’ve already missed out on a couple that would have been useful in this pursuit of Fofana, like Renato Veiga and Hojberg. We’re going to end up with a rushed transfer in the last days of the window who will not satisfy anyone.

        1. You don’t need to be insider to know that a Russian tycoon wont care for lousy 30mil.
That being said journalist do have insiders. If you go with you can’t know this or that based on reports then how do you know that Milan is even after Fofana, or anyone else for that mater ? You see reports are made on some basis, at least in serious journalism. Same as the ones for Fonseca were.

      2. “The problem is Monaco boss felt disrespected by Milan cause we offered them 12mil at first.”

LOL. Yeah, football clubs are owned and ran by b*tt-hurt people who stop doing business because someone made an offer they deem to low? LOL. Sure. What are you, twelve? People who start crying over such things won’t become millionaires/billionaires.

        1. In any business, you come across time wasters you don’t want to deal with, especially during a busy summer transfer season.

If you were selling your house and someone offered half the asking price, you’d stop answering their calls and deal with realistic buyers

  3. What a farce!
An example of how to f_uck up a simple negotiation.

We’ll end up paying more than the 17-20m we could have signed him for a month ago.
Added to the fact he will have no time to integrate before the season starts, in 2 weeks

    1. Bro, where were you when we signed Pavlo for under 20mil fixed? Was that a good capture or were you critical that we paid too little for him?

Did the management “f_uck up” the negotiation then too … ?

      1. I’m glad they got that done with less fuss.
Whether he will be good value or not time will tell. Calafiori would have been my pick but let’s hope this guy can step up.

Striker and DM were always the priority, so that needs to get done!

        1. Calafiori? The 50M€ guy? The guy who cost over twice as much? Is he twice as good? Does he score twice as many goals and make his team concede plenty of goals less? HIGHLY unlikely.

Did Arsenal close the deal with Bologna in a week? Two? Three? Nope. It took time. And they didn’t offer the agreed sum in the first negotiations either. Are Arsenal fans crying their management f’ed up? I doubt it.

          1. Yes that guy. The kind of player who comes along once in a blue moon. An Italian classic, the kind of player who could be the heart of defense for a decade.
A player proven in Serie A.

Pavlovic has a lot to prove. Long term we shall see who is better value

  4. If it’s true that Monaco are asking for 35, and this new offer of 20 doesn’t move the needle, I’d make a final offer of 25 and the move on. I’d make this offer no later and 10 or 11 Aug. If it’s not accepted by the 12th or 13th, I’d rapidly move on. We’re late as it is already. Not sure who is left. Also, the later it gets the less willing teams are to make deals since they have to sort a replacement themselves.
