CorSport: Technical, fast and ruthless – Milan and Inter relying on Leao and Lautaro

If AC Milan and Inter do fight all the way until the end for the Scudetto, it is likely to be because of the exploits of Rafael Leao and Lautaro Martinez.

This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) highlights how Lautaro and Leao would form the dream attacking duo if they played together, with the former playing down the middle and the latter on the left.

Lautaro and Leao are a guarantee of entertainment and goals for Inter and Milan. They represent, each on their own, the best of what Serie A can offer together with Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who, for the moment, are chasing the two Milanese clubs with Napoli.

Both Lautaro and Leao are technical, fast, ruthless and always decisive. For Inter and Milan they represent the men to count on for the ride towards the 20th Scudetto, which would earn a second star.

Leao knows no obstacles when he hits the gas. The way he overwhelms opposing defences is similar to that of Kylian Mbappé and he offers varied threat thanks to his ability to dart to the byline for assists (like the two against Lazio) or cut inside to cross/shoot.

If Leao has any kind of separation from a defender and is in isolation with them, he cannot be caught. He loves to sprint on the outside, get to the back and serve the ball to his team-mates as Olivier Giroud, Christian Pulisic and now also Noah Okafor have found out.

The two goals created by Leao in Milan-Lazio are an example of what the former Lille man can do during the match. Although he has made enormous progress in recent months, consistency remains his Achilles’ heel.

From one match to another – but even within the same game too – Leao can go from indolence to unstoppability. He is already on 3 goals and 4 assists though, showing Leao is a rare pearl.
