Mike Maignan continues to show his value to the AC Milan squad with top performances on the biggest stage and the management want to reward him.
This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) talks about how much Milan suffered when Maignan was not there for those five months he was out, even putting qualification for the next edition of the Champions League in jeopardy.
Now that Maignan is back, Milan have their goal in sight again and have even made it to the semi-finals of the competition, while Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are thinking of a renewal in the short term.
The directors will soon take action to lock down Maignan with a widely deserved contract renewal, acknowledging his decisiveness in Serie A and in the Champions League. While his current deal does not expire until June 2026, the leadership see it as smart to act ahead of time and avoid another tricky renewal situation.
The idea is to extend the current agreement by a couple of seasons (therefore until June 2028) by adjusting his salary – which is currently €2.8m net per season – to the same as what Theo Hernández and Ismaël Bennacer received after their extensions, which is €4m.
