CorSport: Pioli not fazed by heavy absences as Milan’s identity stands strong

AC Milan will take on Juventus this evening and they will have to do without the likes of Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez. However, Stefano Pioli will not invent any new tactics and will rely on the players at his disposal.

As if Maignan’s suspension wasn’t enough, Marco Sportiello sustained an injury during the week and this means Antonio Mirante will start. On the left, Alessandro Florenzi will replace Hernandez. In short, two very experienced backups.

Tody’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) highlights the fact that Pioli has no time to feel sorry for himself. Nor has he decided to change the tactics because of the heavy absences, relying on the identity he has built in the last few months.

Even without the fantastic feet of Maignan, and the bursting runs of Hernandez, Milan will still try to control the game and force their opponents to work hard. It’s clear, however, that even more concentration might be needed than usual in the defensive phase this evening.

Florenzi has played a lot at the start of this season (once on the left as well) and he knows exactly what needs to be done. Mirante, albeit a very experienced goalkeeper, is more of a question mark given that he’s 40 years old and hasn’t played properly in a long time.
