CorSport: Milan player ratings from defeat to Liverpool – midfielder ‘always in difficulty’

By Oliver Fisher -

It wasn’t the result AC Milan were hoping for in the end, but they certainly learned a lot from their Champions League return against Liverpool.

This morning’s edition of il Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) has player ratings for the Milan squad from the game at Anfield, crowning Mike Maignan as one of the best on the pitch with a 7 out of 10 score: “He was great both on the penalty saved by Salah and on the header by Diogo Jota, he can do nothing on the goals of Salah and Henderson.”

Ante Rebic got the same score as well as centre-back duo Simon Kjaer and Fikayo Tomori, with the quartet being the bright spots in a difficult night. The lowest score went to Ismael Bennacer (5) who was ‘always in difficulty’ and ‘suffered from the rhythms of his opponent’.

A 5.5 went to Calabria who ‘struggled’ against Diogo Jota, while Theo Hernandez, Alessandro Florenzi and Olivier Giroud got the same. A 6 went to Sandro Tonali, Franck Kessie, Alexis Saelemaekers and Rafael Leao.

Ratings in full: Maignan 7; Calabria 5.5, Kjaer 7, Tomori 7, Theo Hernandez 5.5; Bennacer 5 (Tonali 6), Kessie 6; Saelemaekers 6 (Florenzi 5.5), Brahim Diaz 6.5, Leao 6 (Giroud 5.5); Rebic 7. Pioli 6.
