CorSport: Milan ready to accelerate pursuit of new defender – the three options

By Oliver Fisher -

With qualification for the group stage of the Europa League secured, it is time for attention to go back to the transfer market.

As Friday’s edition of il Corriere dello Sport (via MilanLive) writes, the main objective is the purchase of a central defender, and the game in Portugal against Rio Ave proved it as Milan had no options on the bench if either of Simon Kjaer or Matteo Gabbia were to be injured.

The paper claims Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu is a player the management continues to like. The Rossoneri are ready to raise their offer of €10-15m but it might not be enough, as the Rossoblu want €25m.

Matija Nastasic now seems to have been ruled out due to his physical condition, but Fiorentina’s German Pezzella has never disappeared from the Diavolo’s radar. Pioli likes him a lot and in the end he could be the player sacrificed by Fiorentina in this transfer market session.

Lastly, let’s not forget the profile of Nacho, the 30-year-old who could leave Real Madrid on loan.
