CorSport: Milan want to secure renewal of key man before June – the reason

AC Milan want to keep hold of Mike Maignan and their aim is to try and agree a renewal within then next three months, according to a report.

There were some worries about Maignan when he collided with Slavia Praha right-back Tomas Vlcek on Thursday, He tried to play on twice but was unable to, leaving the field strapped up and thus the medical staff awaited the results of his scan on Friday with angst.

However, the tests showed that there was no ligament damage done, something that is always a fear with impacts that involve the knee. As a result, he will start today against Verona at the Stadio Bentegodi.

According to what is being reported by Corriere dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera), the Milan management want to try and tie Maignan down to a new contract. His renewal has been discussed for several months now, though his current deal is expiring in June 2026.

Maignan signed a five-year contract worth around €2.8m net per season in the summer of 2021 and now the time has come to think about his future again, given he is among the best goalkeepers in the world.

With the well-known interest of several European big names, Milan want to try and agree fresh terms with the 28-year-old before the European Championship next June.

Given that ‘Magic Mike’ will be the starter for France at the tournament, a good few performances could raise the demand for his services and thus the player’s demands to renew.
