Giovanni Leoni has ended up at the top of AC Milan’s wish list, and with the potential sale of Malick Thiaw to Newcastle, they would have the funds to beat Inter to the punch.
At the start of the summer, the arrival of a new centre-back seemed almost certain. After the pre-season friendlies, however, the situation has changed slightly as Max Allegri was very pleased with the performances of Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw, Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic.
As evidenced by the rejected Newcastle offer for Thiaw, Milan will only sell one of their centre-backs at the right price, meaning well over €30m. If a sale were to materialise, though, they already have the replacement in mind.
Thiaw could be the key
According to today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via Calciomercato.com), Milan are keeping a close eye on Parma’s Giovanni Leoni, who is also on Inter’s wish list. The youngster has a starting price tag of €35m and Liverpool are also involved, so the Rossoneri would definitely need a sale first.

As the newspaper continues, Thiaw could be the key to the deal as Newcastle are very keen on securing his services. They are willing to offer him a salary of €4m per year, compared to the current €800k, and they also have Champions League football going for them.
The first offer of €30m was rejected, as mentioned, but Milan could sell the German international if the next offer amounts to €40m. In terms of the replacement, the plan B to Leoni is Fiorentina’s Pietro Comuzzo, who has been on the Rossoneri’s radar for quite some time.

Not a good idea. Keep the settled player with experience
He made horrible mistakes last season. That isn’t a settled player. In any case Allegri publicly said Leoni is the future of Italian national team. So I think he really needs wants him.
hypocrisy at its finest…
I say that bro….he is overtaked by 90% rivals. Mistake almost every game….own goals…milan must bring dragusin or romero….second will be much better….Leoni now have good form but i think that could change….
If we want Leoni better get a move on. I read Liverpool already had a 30mn+ bid rejected. EPL money is almost as limitless as Saudi so we can’t compete in a bidding war.
We should press Newcastle on a deal ASAP, if they wait too long then withdraw Thiaw for sale as too late to get a replacement. I don’t want another Emerson Royale coming in just to make up the squad depth. It’s gotta be Quality signings not Quantity
Buy Leoni and bring back experience Caldara
Buy Leoni and bring back experience Caldara
We need experienced FOOTBALLER…not EXPERIENCED BENCH WARMER IN DUGOUT AND HOSPITAL….Caldara is experienced in the latter two, not football.
Please no leoni. Better comuzzo it’s more realistic prices. Pioli likes bennacer. Milan should offer Benny + 15m for Comuzzo. It’s good win win solutions
Benny’s mother married Marseille owner, he will go to Marseille and eventually to grave within Marseille. Benny was Marseille’mascot last birth. Benny will be Marseille owner next birth, then coach then scout and then ball boy then toilet cleaner of Marseille in subsequent birth…..In fact other than Marseille no one wants Benny.
Benny and Marseille are made for each other till the end if time.
This would be a risky move. Leoni is 18yrs old. how do you entrust the heart of the defense to a teenager? He may be one for the future, but what about 2025 to 2026? Thiaw is still young, but with international experience and will certainly get better. Newcastle see that!
Thiaw and give Newcastle 20m for tonali hehe
If NewCastle pays just 20-25 more they can have Tomori too and we can have both Leoni and Comuzzo…Young Italian CB pairing with Pavlo as the ball playing defender.
sell them tomori instead for the same pric
