CorSport: Milan working on three renewals – the most difficult to ‘unravel’

The international break will give the AC Milan management a chance to work on some renewals that they hope to get solved in the coming weeks and months, with three standing out above all.

Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports this morning that there are a trio of contract extensions that will have to be pursued by the management, namely those of Theo Hernandez, Mike Maignan and Matteo Gabbia whose current deals all expire in June 2026.

Theo’s is the least easy case to unravel but the starting point and the basis of everything is that there is a strong will on both the player and the club sides to continue together. This is certainly a necessary condition but it is not enough, because economic recognition is also expected.

At the moment Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Geoffrey Moncada have spoken mainly with the player but soon, if they want to get something done, they will have to include the agent Manuel Garcia Quilon in the discussions.

The request is a top salary in line with his status as a top left-bacl, but at the moment Theo is also experiencing a period that is not the best both in terms of form but also his on-field behaviour, which might factor into things.

For Maignan things are much further along and he could sign a four-year extension at €5m net per season. There are good feelings about Gabbia too, who is moving towards penning a new deal that would see his current €1m net per season salary, but a signature is not imminent yet.
