CorSport: Moncada working on two deals to strengthen Milan’s core – the details

While waiting for the new head coach to be appointed – which we can now presume to be Paulo Fonseca – Geoffrey Moncada is reportedly at work to strengthen the squad.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Milan have had new contacts for Joshua Zirkzee in the last few hours. The management have been after the Bologna striker for months, but in addition to the €40m clause the obstacle of commissions must be overcome.

However, it cannot be ruled out that Milan might try to buy another striker with different characteristics. The Dutchman is seen by Fonseca as more of a second striker rather than a traditional centre-forward as Olivier Giroud has been in the last three years.

For the Portuguese coach, it may be necessary to sign an option with different characteristics in addition to Zirkzee, otherwise the attack might risk being too one-dimensional given Noah Okafor and Luka Jovic also prefer to play off someone.

Milan will also have to strengthen the midfield and could focus on Youssouf Fofana from Monaco, who will certainly leave Monaco in the summer. The French national team midfielder has had contact with Milan through his entourage.

Now, Moncada is working on the Monaco front to try secure a midfielder who would sit in front of the defence and ideally offer better balance in transition.
