CorSport: Finding a new home – why the Abraham hypothesis remains open for Milan

AC Milan are still umming and arring about adding another striker to their squad, and the option of Tammy Abraham has not died yet.

Whilst they have added Alvaro Morata to their ranks this summer, Milan have continuously been linked with the idea of a third addition, to play alongside Morata and Luka Jovic, or replace Jovic and allow Francesco Camarda a route into the senior squad.

Niclas Fullkrug was analysed heavily, but the Rossoneri eventually decided against a move for the German, and Abraham was seemingly the answer, but it still remains to be seen if there is even a question in the first place.

Although ideas exist, acting upon them is a completely different thing, and Milan have not made any new moves for a striker, yet. However, Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) suggests that the idea is still being spoken about.

In fact, the Diavolo’s management believe that they can find him a new home at Milanello, and with AS Roma wanting to trim their squad, an Abraham exit cannot be ruled out.

The English striker has already given the move his focus, and whilst Premier League interest exists, it appears the Rossoneri would be the favourites to land his signature if they decided they wanted to make the move.

    1. True. But like I said in my other post further down, it does seem that we need another striker (at which point Jovic should be sold). Yes, Abraham is likely headed elsewhere, and I see no movement whatsoever from our management to get another ST this mercato window, so this is likely just click bait from awful journalists.

If not just a click-bait rumor, if by some miracle Abraham does materialize, despite his big salary and injury-prone record, this late in the window I’d actually welcome him.

  1. Saelemaekers as a striker? What makes you think he’d be good, there?

I was against the Abraham move but Morata getting a muscle injury after only 20 minutes of play, did scare me. We will miss him for sure against Parma and Lazio, and there is talk that maybe he’ll miss the Venezia game too, only coming back for the Derby.

That is scary. Going into a season that will have some 55 games with only Morata as a great striker, with Jovic being rather useless when trying to cover for a lone striker role, and Okafor decent but often not good either when he starts, has convinced me that we do need another striker (at which point we should sell Jovic, not to bloat the squad more than it is currently bloated).

Should it be the big-salary injury-prone Abraham? Likely not, if better options were available. But this late in the Mercato with only 9 days left, at this point I’d welcome Abraham and hope that he trims down a little his salary request, and doesn’t get injured too often, being then able to give Morata some rest for the smaller games.

However, I see more movement for the midfield (Vos for Futuro; Koné) and no movement for the two positions we’re most in need of: another striker, and a good deputy for Theo. I do consider that not addressing the lack of a good left back to back Theo up, and not signing two rather one new striker, are failures from our management.

    1. Morata’s injury is indeed a scary one, but I’d say the measure of a good manager is in the ability to adapt, select his team and play formations to the strengths of players available to him. We’ve seen the likes of Pep and Don Carlo alter their usual formations to suit availability.

Hard to understand the stiff-necked approach of insisting on 4-2-3-1 for every game even when available players at the time might not the best suited. This was my usual frustration with Stefano.

If available forwards Jovic and Ok4 are best suited to 2 striker formations, why not try that and field them both?
full backs Calabria and Theo (yes Theo) are not the most adept at defending. Should this not make a case to at least try 3-5-2, with both as wing backs?

    2. “However, I see more movement for the midfield (Vos for Futuro; Koné) and no movement for the two positions we’re most in need of: another striker, and a good deputy for Theo. IMO, Vos should be enough for the midfield, we don’t need Koné.
We should adress the striker issue and the left, back issues, even getting dry loans if necessary.

        1. Ajax is apparently asking for 10M€, do you think we’re gonna pay 10M€ for a player who isn’t gonna play with the first team ? He can be a deputy for Fofana while also playing with Futuro.
Also Vos is a DM, Koné is not a DM, he is mainly a ball carrier with worse stats than Fofana. We don’t have a problem that Koné can solve.

          1. I’m not saying he wouldn’t cameo for the first team. Nor do I think Milan will pay 10mil for him.

I think the plan would be to start him at the Futuro then, like with any other prospect, integrate him into the first team.

Might be accelerated of course if Fofana got injured and we needed more DM coverage.
