CorSport: The offer needed for Milan to sell De Ketelaere this summer

By Isak Möller -

Charles De Ketelaere arrived at AC Milan last summer but failed to impress in his first season with the club. Therefore, the Rossoneri could consider a sale but would need a certain figure to do so.

De Ketelaere arrived from Club Brugge in a deal worth €35.5m last year and with that price tag came high expectations. The Belgian, as one can understand, failed to live up to the hype but did so in a rather spectacular fashion.

In 40 appearances, he bagged just one assist and for each game that went by, he lost more and more confidence. As a result, Milan are not convinced that he can replicate the journey made by the likes of Sandro Tonali and Rafael Leao, given that they weren’t completely invisible in their first season.

According to today’s edition of Corriere Dello Sport, as cited by MilanNews, Milan are open to selling the 22-year-old this summer. However, they would have to receive an offer of €28-29m in order to avoid a capital loss on the balance sheet. This, therefore, is the minimum.

  1. A club investing €29 mio for CDK (or what is left of him) remains to be seen …. I must admit I have my doubts, but one never knows. Sometimes miracles happen …

  2. 40 appearances but little playing time in the end. He was captain and starter yesterday in a friendly game for Belgium U21 against Israel. He was substituted at halftime but reportedly played very well, with many key passes. The reports also explain he had a lot of space to ponder, and he’s free to move to the right lane. Maybe he’s not suited for Pioli as a AM. Pioli’s system doesn’t seem to be suited for AM anyway. Paqueta, Calhanoglu, Diaz and De Ketelaere never found their pace with him. Then Kessié, Bennacer and Krunic were the choices. Is it why we struggle against low blocks? If he stays, I think we all hope he can have a shot as a RW.

    1. This is some positive news. Totally agree on this analysis, we should give him a go on the right. Sign Kamada for the middle and play CDK on the right, hopefully we can fix multiple problems with one free signing and a couple of position changes.

    2. I watched the game in order to see how will CDK play. He did good as you said showing some good passing. I couldn’t see the formation on paper to see exactly where he was positioned. But from the game, he played much closer to goal then in Milan. Drifting left and right. The problem with Milan is that Pioli is a very rigid coach, so for CDK to get a chance in another position someone will need to get injured for Pioli to be practicly forced to try him in that position. I mean he had the perfect game with Chievo to try out new things at the end of the season, but he didn’t even gave a chance to the bench players let alone to try new positions for players.

    3. Spot on analysis. All ACM fail with Pioli. It’s his system not the players. They do very well elsewhere. Not a coincidence. Horrible policy to take losses on youth players after one year. If that was Maldini who wanted to sell he would be crucified by the Maldini haters on this forum. Terrible. Give the kid a chance on the RW and see what he does or loan him out to get his value up then sell if we have to. But don’t sell a young kid after one season – more expensive to do that all the time then to just pay for a starting caliber experienced player

  3. This whole +/- valenza craze is jus a part of the equation. At the end of the day money is money and it’s more important than accounting. Right now there is still hope attatched to him an it’s keeping his valuation somewhat afloat. If 22/23 season repeats then next year his value will plummet and we’d be lucky to get 10M for him.

It boils down to whether coaching staff believes he can turn it around or not.

  4. It is hard to imagine there is stupid club want to pay 29m euro next summer . AC Milan choice only loan him to serie A club or keep him in squad but move his position from AmF to RW because he cannot play on AMF
