CorSport: Okafor to Roma, Abraham to Milan – the latest idea being worked on

By Oliver Fisher -

Paulo Fonseca is a big fan of Tammy Abraham and AC Milan are pushing to try and strike a deal with AS Roma, with a new name having entered the frame as a potential counterpart.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Milan have not given up on Abraham after the initial links a few weeks ago and he is a name that Fonseca considers perfect to strengthen the attack.

Roma have always asked for €25-30m for the sale of the English centre-forward, without ever opening up to a loan solution, because they want to cash in after the arrival of Artem Dovbyk for close to €40m.

Thus, Milan will have to be particularly convincing to sign the former Chelsea player, who is good friends with Fikayo Tomori and seems open to the move. A few weeks ago, the Diavolo had tempted Roma by inserting counterparts to lower the cash sum involved, but the ideas put forward were rejected.

According to the paper, Milan could now try that approach again, but changing the player to be included in the operation. The latest idea is to try and use Noah Okafor in the deal, and the Giallorossi would certainly evaluate the proposal.

  1. I hope this is just a media bull.
Because that would be a dumb move.
Okafor is so much better and he can cover two positions up front.

    1. Yeah, we will give Roma, Okafor? Dump Tammy and go for Broja or Chiesa on loan with option to buy, if not I think Nasti could do well, he was physically able against Rudigar and that’s enough for me.

In all honesty it is media bull, trying to hype up Roma and boost season tickets sales

    2. I’m not sure, TBH. It’s an interesting proposition. I’ve always like Tammy, and consider him to be a sort of Osimhen-lite. He’s score 17 goals in one Serie A season and 15 goals in a PL season. Okafor has never broken 10 goals in a season in his career. Having a 1-2 punch of Abraham and Morata at striker would not be bad, in my mind. It would mean Salad would stay as day to day cover for Leao on the left, but in reality should Leao go down with a long term injury we all know Puli would be moved into his natural position, Chuk would be on the right, and RLC or Reijnders would play at AM (if Puli vacates that to play LW). I’m honestly not very concerned with using Okafor in this trade. Plus, I’m sure one more season of coming off the bench and Okafor would be pushing for a move in 2025 anyway. I think this could be an interesting solution.

  2. Hard for me to criticise the new manager when he obviously knows more about the game than the casual fan. Also not sure how true the reports are on his choices, I thought he wasn’t going to be central in player signings?

But it does seem a bit strange that it’s reportedly Fonseca “specifically asking” for the likes of Emerson Royal (backup at Spurs) and Tammy Abraham (backup at Roma)..

    1. Who said that the coach won’t be central in players signings?
Fans that like to create their own stories based on nothing factual.

          1. Not really. I acknowledge fans make shît up. Then I add that journalist make shît up as well.

            So yeah, f*ck off

    2. That’s the weird thing. The “specifically asking” especially when Fonseca haven’t got all the player on his disposal. I hope Fonseca spend time to evaluate Okafor before making such expensive and kinda expensive gambling move for Tammy.

The money can be put somewhere else more urgent. It’s August now, and we yet have reinforcement for midfield.

    3. I also didnt consider Emerson Royal as a starting player. I watched his videos but didn’t see anything to like about, but, I do like Abraham. To me if Abraham is fit he can be deadly

    4. Abraham became a backup at Roma when he was basically ruled out for year and the club changed coach like three times since he arrived. He’s scored 17 goals in a season in Serie A. Neither Giroud or Morata have accomplished that. In fact, Morata never scored 17 league goals in one season in his career. Giroud’s PL best is 16, Tammy has 15 in one season in the PL. So statistically he’s right there, if not a bit better. Per Transfermarkt, at center forward, Giroud has a .40 goals per game ratio, Morata has .39 and Tammy has .42. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  3. I’d be sad to see okafor go but if that’s what they wanna do, fine. I don’t think he’d be given a proper chance to develop at Milan anyway.

  4. I hope this is BS as it would be a terrible mistake.
I would take Okafor of Abraham any day.
He may still be our best striker this year

  5. Better for Okafor, he’s being wasted here sitting on the bench. And a dumb deal for Milan. Some folks forget so easily his stats from past season…

Ok so Okafor leaves and Saele stays. We’re going to rely on one player to cover both wings? And don’t give me Liberali, he’s a 17 year old kid and needs further development behind the spotlight.

    1. Pulisic is a natural LW. Salad will be the cover off the bench on a per game basis, but if Leao goes down long term it will surely be Pulisic at LW and Chuk at RW. If Pulisic was AM until then, RLC will shift back up, or Rejinders can also shift up. And yes, Liberali would probably be called up for depth at that point, as giving him some minutes off the bench in case of injuries ahead of him make sense and would be good for him. Not a big deal.

  6. Well this was obvious. Okafor is not that effective on the wing, and as a striker he cant play solo simmilar like Jovic. Thats why we want Tammy, he can play as a target striker.

  7. Why not Jovic?

However with the way Fonseca has been performing since his inception, I trust his judgement in regard to Emerson and Abraham.

We all didn’t find Fonseca capable enough, but so far, he is proving us wrong. I believe he’s gonna prove us wrong with Emerson and Abraham.

  8. It is destruction if milan managent swap Okafur with Abraham are milan owners and managent have no minds and ears and eyes.
I got shocket when red this.
Okafur has great quality even better Leao if lined up.
Great Loss and vissionless milan project if it became true story

  9. Milan acquires players with potential to then be sold for a capital gain, NOT exchanged for another player, unless it’s a fringe player. If they stick to this model, Okafor isn’t going in any player exchange deal.

I put ZERO stock into this story.

  10. There could be truth to this story – especially IF we keep Salad – which it seems Fonseca would like to do. So it’s not far fetched at all.

IF we keep Salad – he backs up Leao. Chuck and Pulisic on right – that is 4 wingers. Yes Pulisic can and sounds like sometimes will play behind the #9 but so will RLC. So we have one too many Wingers w Okafor – as he’s not a #9 – but neither is Jovic. I’d rather dump Jovic for Abraham. But nobody wants Jovic. So Okafor could be the odd man out if we don’t sell Salad. I hope we don’t sell Oak – but I can see it happening. All depends on Salad or Jovic.

We should have just signed Dvobyk – but now guess it’s Abraham coming off injury.

So I wouldn’t say it’s a BS story. Redbird will do anything to not spend over 20M CASH on ANY player – we all can see that. So a player swap wouldn’t be surprising. We are trying to do the same with Samardzic – including players Udinese don’t want. So not surprising we would try the same for Abraham.

  11. Millan please don’t sell okafor, he is a perfect replacement for leao and can still play as a striker, let millan look for other options in the deal,
