If there is one area that AC Milan seem almost certain to strengthen in next month, it is the centre-back department.
With Simon Kjaer and Matteo Gabbia currently out injured and with Mateo Musacchio and Leo Duarte clearly not trusted, the Milan management are searching to find the right reinforcement for a defensive department that is stretched.
According to a report from il Corriere dello Sport (via MilanLive), the Rossoneri do indeed intend to intervene in the market in January and at least one of Musacchio or Duarte will leave.
The three targets are as follows: Matteo Lovato of Hellas Verona, Mohamed Simakan of Strasbourg and Ozan Kabak of Schalke 04. These are familiar names and obviously other names should not be excluded, but Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara are evaluating more and more players and must also consider the economic aspect.
In the summer transfer window, Milan were willing to invest around €15m to buy a new defender, and that is probably the amount that will be made available in January too.
