CorSport: Pioli settles on centre-backs for Fiorentina game amid Kjaer doubts

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are back in Serie A action again on Saturday night against Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, and Stefano Pioli has an idea in mind regarding the defence that he will field.

According to what is being reported by Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan), today will be an important day when it comes to establishing how Simon Kjaer is physically after he sustained a problem over the international break.

As the paper recalls, Kjaer left the pitch during the international friendly match at the Parken in Copenhagen between his home team Denmark and Switzerland, which was played last Saturday and ended 0-0.

The Dane came off in the 65th minute due to physical problems, and Pioli will know the situation with certainty today, but it seems that Kjaer could – in any case – be rested for the match against Fiorentina.

For the match in Tuscany, Fikayo Tomori and Matteo Gabbia are ready as the centre-back pairing with Malick Thiaw potentially the only alternative on the bench.

Pierre Kalulu will have to spend yet another lengthy period on the sidelines after suffering a ligament problem during the win over Hellas Verona just before the international break. His estimated absence is another 3-5 weeks.

  1. Tomori-Gabbia deservedly is our best CB pairing.

So sad to see Kalulu injured again. Huge potential, hopefully he can get his career back on track.

  2. Tomori cannot partner Gabbia because if his errors so Pioli must do the right thing instead partner Gabbia and Theo Hernandez then use Jimenez in the left since Kjaer is injured, but if Kjaer is fit then use Kjaer and Gabbia then Theo Hernandez will play left back because kjear deserves to play 90 mins a defender with versertile experience intelligent and knows how to move the ball when convenient. Tomori should go to the bench he makes too much errors too fast and causes opponents to attack us through counter attack.
