CorSport: No questions, no guarantees – Milan’s season will decide Moncada’s fate

By Ben Dixon -

At present, the faith in AC Milan’s management is at an all-time low. However, things can change during a season, and a report has suggested that this season is pivotal to the future of one member of the management.

When you start a season like Milan have, questions will always be asked. However, questions about the management – and more importantly their ability to deliver success – have existed long before the first three games of the Serie A season.

Throughout the summer, questions directed to the management were rife. The Joshua Zirkzee saga was a difficult process to navigate, and there isn’t really a correct way to view it. Either the Rossoneri held out hope for too long, or they didn’t do enough. Both sides could be seen as correct, but there is not a clear answer.

Similar arguments could be made about the Youssouf Fofana saga, perhaps, even though the Diavolo got their man. Once again, questions can, and have been asked about the signing of Alvaro Morata and Emerson Royal. However, praise has been given for the signing of Strahinja Pavlovic – who has been described as Milan’s only certainty today.

Looking back to the team that finds and finalises these signings, Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) reports that this season could create a change for the management. Given Geoffrey Moncada’s contract expires on June 30, there is a judgment awaiting to be made.

At present, there are no guarantees about his future and there are no questions, but ‘it is clear’ that this season will influence a decision, and will have an impact on the possibilities of a renewal.

  1. Moncada? Why not Furlani? That slimeball is the mastermind behind this landslide failure. Dont let that slimeball use another scapegoat. Slimeball is a plague upon Milan. Get rid of that disease called Furlani and overnight Milan will get better.

Moncada is a trophy SD so he can get the blame of Slimeball’s failure. Furlani is controlling every decision and negotiation failing at EVERYTHING.

    1. You don’t know what you’re talking about. Moncada is a scout. Do you know the job of a scout? He identifies targets. Furlani closes the deals. Furlani’s job isn’t, nor should be, under threat.

    2. Wtf you on about? Furlani mostly has the financial aspect over. He is not the shot caller on anything, he just pushes papers.
Thats the #1 problem in this club. We have no shot caller

      1. ^^^ T H I S ! ! !

We lack a DS. You couldn’t even blame anyone if the season derailed. It’s like an LLC up top. Moncada does his job and scouts. Furlani does his job and crunches the numbers. Ibra does his job and… “advises”?

Who do you even fire? Who picked Fonseca?

  2. Watching Tonali yesterday was nice and painful at the same time can’t believe we let go of him. Would swap RLC, Musah and Reijnders back for him.

    1. According to some people here, Reijnders did more in his first game (last year), than Tonali in his hole Milan carrier. I’m not a Reijnders hater but disrespecting Tonali like that is a bit harsh. And NO selling him was not a good plan. Even after the gambling incident. I would keep Tonali with his 1 year ban every day of the week.

      1. Dense take…

So you keep Tonali. He gets suspended for a year. And you field who? Krunic and Bennacer on the middle? Messias and Saelemaekers on the RW? No CAM and Jovic up front?

Hell of a team? Glad you aren’t managing one!

Truth is, in retrospect, letting go of him when we did saved this club. Otherwise we would have been in the bottom half of the standings instead of 2nd last season.

        1. We got 60M from Tonali and spend 160 in 2 years. So we could easily buy some players (like pulisic and reijnders) to strength the team and never have the need to buy players like RLC, Teracciano, Pelegrino etc. Just strength the team in key spots, not rebuild the center from scratches. And the fact that I have an opinion doesn’t mean I want a management spot you 🤡.

    2. “Well I beg your partner…getting 80mlns for him was a steal”…you’ll hear from jerry’s funboys and ass lickers very soon…even though we lack now identity and spine

  3. As much as I hate Furlani and his mug, objectively he’s doing well with the club on financial level. On the other hand he’s also responsible for renewals and right now there are two big renewals + our captain’s that are dragging on for some time now. Inter didn’t lose time to extend with their stars and they were able to offer quite the salaries to both Lautaro and Barella. Furlani could as well be responsible for late acqusition of Fofana because of cheapskate and lowballing. Just as with renewals.

Moncada on the other hand identified our acquisitions for the last two summers. They spent roughly 200 millions on them but most of them turned out to be fringe players.

Buying players for 433 but hired a coach who plays 4231 and continued with buying players for 433. We lack a proper sporting director here and so after two team overhauls, I hope that next summer we get a management overhaul. Igli Tare is available.

    1. It was Furlani who renewed Leao and sorted out his mess with Sporting. Let’s see if he can work his magic and renew Theo and Mike just as swiftly.

Or will the decision to appoint Fonseca come and bite them on the ass.

    2. ” We lack a proper sporting director here and so after two team overhauls, I hope that next summer we get a management overhaul. Igli Tare is available.”
      This.
I think Moncada is more to blame for this summer than Furlani. Moncada picks the players, Furlani makes the deal. Aside from Fofana which dragged way too long, Furlani managed more or less to get all the players we went for and for a lower price than initially asked.
But who thought Fofana is the ideal replacement of Kessie ? The guy was paired with Kanté during yesterday’s game.
Who, as you said, went for a coach who uses 4-2-3-1 even though we have players for a 4-3-3 and also choses Fofana who, in the few times he played in a 4-3-3 was a 8.
Who decided to renew to Jovic and keep Saelemakers, only to sweep Abraham for Saelemakers ?
And finally who decided to go for that disaster that is Emerson Royal ?

  4. Both of those clowns need to be fired. Furlani has done nothing and moncada only wants French players. Those 2 along with Gerry have turned this club into inter Milan of the past. They need to go along with their supporters.

  5. Moncada has had hits and misses.
His recent recruitment has become haphazard and baffling.
I give him huge credit for unearthing the likes of Kalulu.

I have lost faith in him. We could have done much better with the funds available
