CorSport: A possible repeat of the past – ‘No agreement’ between Milan and Calabria

By Ben Dixon -

Several key players are having their contracts looked at, and AC Milan are in a situation with Davide Calabria given there is nothing agreed upon about his future.

The renewals of Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan were once in a challenging place. Still, as time passes, things are getting increasingly more positive, and there is hope for their future, and, at present, a feeling of serenity.

However, the same cannot be said when speaking of Calabria’s situation, and some differences must be noted. Headlined by the expiry date, things are entering a difficult period between the two parties, given there is less than a year remaining on the captain’s current deal.

As Corriere dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera) reports, there is no agreement in place currently, and with time ticking, something must be resolved quickly, given it is only 5 months until clubs can agree a deal for the right-back on a pre-contract agreement.

Given Emerson Royal joined the club this summer, his position in the squad is peculiar – he still wears the captain’s armband, but efforts are being made to give him competition or replace him.

Wearing the captain’s armband is another point of interest for CorSport too, as they recall that, if he departs for free, he will be the third captain to depart under these circumstances.

  1. I think it’s clear now Royal is seen as his successor. No intention on renewing Calabria at his demanded salary. His performances just aren’t good enough.

  2. Not that Im a fan of Calabria since he’s rubish for years now but until these mfs wont get rid of all the players that were at the club before them, they wont rest and start doing some results.

    1. What’s your evidence for that? Please list the players that were sold and should not have been sold. Tonali: we dodged a bullet. CDK and Daniel Maldini: good riddance. Krunic: everybody asked the club to get rid of him. Nasti: not good enough. Players we are trying to get rid of: Origi, Ballo, no comments needed. Pobega, Adli: both too slow and unreliable. Terracciano: oh God, I surely do hope he leaves.

Yes, I do think we should have kept Kalulu over Thiaw; this is one of the few moves I regret; it happens.

Now, what about the big names everybody freaked out that management would sell? Theo, Rafa, Mike: they are all staying.

Do realize that the roster is too bloated and must be thinned.

      1. Not really a fan of Calabria too but the management must not forget the squad list too…… At the moment there’s a very little percentage of Italian players at Milan something we know with Inter before now…. They should look out for Italian talents not to fall short of squad list.

      2. Tonali out for the season had the same impact as Musah being available to play last season. De Ketelaere and Pulisic had similar stats last season. Maldini had better production in six months than Loftus-Cheek in a year.

And who “bloasted” this roster? A scudetto-winning roster not so long ago, now full of “high ceiling” bargains and rejects. But it was the previous management’s fault, then it was Pioli’s fault. Fonseca is smart to live in Milanello, he shouldn’t buy a house because he won’t stay long.

        1. Bart you are making a fool of yourself again. Think for a second if Milan didn’t sell Tonali, and bring in the players that that money allowed us to bring in. He gets suspended and our midfield last season would have been what? Krunic and Pobega for half a season , than Bennacer and Krunic. We wouldn’t have finished in the top 10.
And comparing Pulisic with CDK is the dumbest thing yet. As if CDK wouldv’e done anything different if he stayed at Milan. It didn’t work in our system.
Keep hoping for Milan to fail. That’s a real fan.

          1. Maybe real fans in Kansas only watch the US summer show but check last season and tell me it wasn’t a failure. Unless you’re in the redsht bandwagon and feel good with top 4 and ROI.

          2. Yeah Bart, I will. We finished 4th (really 5th but Juve had points deducted) the prior season with the Amazing Tonali in the midfield. Then we sold him and we finished 2nd place last season without him. I would say that’s an improvement.
But the “real fans” are the one’s who are rooting for the team to fail because they hate the American ownership and the management that sold Tonali and got rid of the infallible Maldini. Got it.

          3. That constant debate about the real fans is exhausting. I don’t know what it is. I know that I go to San Siro multiple times every year and last season was painful to watch. Nothing close to the scudetto season, nothing close to the UCL semifinals run season. I’m not excited by endless and blind optimism toward guys explicitly saying winning is boring or we don’t compete for trophies. So just be your kind of real fan and I’ll be mine.

          4. Your problem Bart is that you can’t defend your position without making up lies. Please show me who said “winning is boring or we don’t compete for trophies”. Then maybe I’ll agree with you.
I actually believe Cardinale said his goal was to win the Champions League.
Clearly you hate Americans but I think they are doing a good job, Last years squad was stronger than the previous years and this year’s squad is stronger than last year’s with the new signings of Morata, Pavlovic, Fofana and Emerson. All you can ask is that they continue to improve the squad each season which is what they are doing. Not sure what your problem is.

          5. Bro Ill stop here. You can find on Google the speeches from Cardinale to the Wall Street Journal or Forbes or Fortune. Same for Scaroni. Something is not a lie because you are unaware of it. As for my hate for Americans, just look closer at my avatar and try to know me before you push bold statements like this haha have a good night no harm done

          6. Actually Bart I did check it out and he never said winning is boring. I read the entire article instead of just the misleading headline which you might want to try. If you did you would see he actually said he wants to win the Scudetto and the Champions League every year , but that’s not how things work.
What was taken out of context by you and the writer was that he said if you win everything every year such as PSG or Bayern it would lose it’s value because it would mean you were in a non competitive competition.
