CorSport: Unity not in question as Leao’s exclusion shows strength of Fonseca’s Milan

Rafael Leao didn’t play a single minute for AC Milan against Udinese last night, remaining on the bench for the entire game, and some might take this as a bad signal. However, as highlighted by a report, if anything it shows the Rossoneri’s strengths.

Despite not having Leao on the pitch, and playing most of the game with ten men, Milan prevailed 1-0 and Fonseca got just the answer he wanted. As highlighted by Corriere dello Sport this morning (via MilanNews), that also goes for the ‘Leao situation’.

The winger warmed up for most of the second half but remained on the bench, with some fans questioning whether there is a ‘new Leao case’ or not. The answer was provided by Fonseca during the post-match conference: Leao hadn’t trained much and other players were in better form.

Tuesday’s game against Club Brugge will give us a better picture, but the truth is that Fonseca shut down any potential controversy with his comments. Above all, Leao understood the decision and didn’t complain, cheering on his teammates as always.

Furthermore, with such a tight schedule ahead, it only makes sense to manage the players to avoid injuries. As such, unity is certainly not in question and Fonseca’s Milan are beginning to show their strengths in adversity.

  1. Portugal traveled to Poland and then Scotland for games so it makes sense for him to get a breather. Okafor was in Milan training. It’s good fonseca starting to rotate a bit.
He can probably rest pulisic the next game 4 example. We should be able to beat bruges without all the heavy hitters
