CorSport: Why Pioli decided to exclude Hauge from EL squad over Krunic and Meite

Stefano Pioli’s decision to leave Jens Petter Hauge out of the squad for the next stage of the Europa League was purely based on numbers, a report claims.

There has been an outpouring of emotion on social media following Stefano Pioli’s decision to exclude Jens Petter Hauge from the Europa League squad for the knockout stages. We have already ranted about the decision, but now an explanation has arrived from this morning’s papers.

According to what il Corriere dello Sport report this morning, (via MilanNews), the young Norwegian forward was in a battle with Meite and Krunic, but in the end Stefano Pioli chose to leave out the former Bodo/Glimt star for one key reason.

Pioli decided that Hauge was the right man to miss out because he already has three potential options for the left wing ahead of him; namely Ante Rebic, Rafael Leao and if necessary also Mario Mandzukic.
