Alessandro Costacurta has praised AC Milan’s signing of Koni De Winter, but is concerned about the strikers linked.
Milan look set to complete the signing of De Winter from Genoa to replace Malick Thiaw, after a blitz over the weekend that took less than 24 hours to reach the finish line. He will join in a deal worth €20m, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Meanwhile, sporting director Igli Tare is believed to have stayed behind in England despite the squad flying back to Italy on Sunday. This is because he wants to personally do more work on the Rasmus Hojlund operation, and the Dane is apparently now open to joining.
‘Gimenez is no less than either’
Costacurta spoke live on a segment for Sky Italia on Sunday night and was asked for his thoughts on the latest business that the Rossoneri are doing, with his words transcribed by Calciomercato.com.

“He’s definitely a guy who’s grown, and I think he can do so further. The issue is this: if he can improve further, he could truly be part of a great team.
“The real problem in Milan’s last few years has been the performances of the defenders, and this problem can only be solved by the players’ individual growth. Until these players improve, Milan won’t get anywhere.”

“Neither is extraordinary, but both can help. If the team helps them, they can lend a hand, but neither of them scores goals on their own. Milan have chosen a coach who can help them win, but I’m not so sure this team can help the centre-forward.
“In my opinion, Milan needs a sensational centre-forward, and neither Hojlund nor Vlahovic are that. For example, Gimenez, in my opinion, is no less than either of them.”

“Sensational” CFs cost over 100M. A club like Milan has to develop them, but there is no faith and patience.
I think that the steps with Camarda and Colombo are good steps towards developing them

We could have tried all we could for Osimhen even though I don’t think Napoli would have sold him to any Italian side.
But the interviewer should have asked him to name one or two “sensational” strikers which we should be after.
The sensational strikers I know would want to play in the Champions League, something which we cannot offer them going into the season.
It’s easy to complain without pointing out proper perspective of our specific situation.
But I do agree, neither of Vlahovic or Hojlund is better than Gimenez.
He is correct. Milan lacks a traditional striker, a poacher, and at present, there are only two options but they are unavailable. These are Lewandowski and Harry Kane.
Other suitable choices include Serhou Guirassy and Paco Alcácer.
Milan should consider signing one of these players.
3rd or 4th loan spell from Colombo. Colombo is a gone case for Milan. And by scoring goals does Billy Costacurta mean taking the ball from Centre half and then going to goal on his own like Maradona? Then no, there are rare stickers like that.
Milan can’t afford a sensational striker at this current moment in the club’s history. Maybe after we have our own stadium and the club’s income doubles by then, only then will Milan be able to afford to sign top players or keep them if they have any.

Lucca isn’t the answer. He could have been but Milan didn’t buy him when he was available. His price went way up after his transfer. Not an option for Milan anymore.
Mitrovic is better anyway. He will be free, and after getting 25M to leave Al ahly he could accept an ok salary.
