Pervis Estupinan was one of the main positives for AC Milan in their 3-0 win against Udinese last night, and it’s something that Billy Costacurta made sure to highlight afterwards.
As the primary left wing-back, Estupinan has certainly grown into his role in Massimiliano Allegri’s system. However, while yesterday’s display against Udinese warranted a very good rating, there hasn’t been a clear-cut path to the positive form.

Speaking live on Sky Italia after the game, as transcribed by MilanNews, the Milan legend Billy Costacurta shared his thoughts on Estupinan’s performances so far. In addition to shutting down some of the initial negativity, he also praised the player for the improvements.
“In my opinion, Estupinan is improving. I think this deserves to be highlighted because, after the first match, he was perhaps criticised a little too much.
“He’s a very strong attacker and a defender who needs to improve. A little like Theo, although I’m not saying he’s as strong or resembles him in terms of characteristics,” he stated.
It remains to be seen if Estupinan will start once again on Tuesday, as Milan will face Lecce in the Coppa Italia, or if he will get some rest. Davide Bartesaghi is probably the deputy, though there are some other solutions as well.
He sometimes loses the ball too easily for my liking and maybe because of his stature, he tends to be a bit bullied sometimes by the opposition’s wingers, but he’s improving in every department from game to game.
He’s good with the ball on this feet and has good movement and reading.
And those crosses of his are especially wicked.
Pervis is letting his football do the talking. Replacing Theo was always going to come with scrutiny, but Pervis is a quality player and his performances are getting stronger with each game.
He was a quality player in the EPL.
Solid play, dribbling wise maybe not quite what was but reads the game so much better and contributes in defense build up and attack

Pervis 2-3 years ago pre his injury plague was easily one of the best left wing-backs in the world. Even if though he is still fast, his nickname in his home country was “la bala”, the bullet. Glad to see he appears to be mostly fit now, but hopefully his minutes should be managed more. He’s been successful before in La Liga and the EPL and glad he’s showing and bringing his experience here.
if milan plays beautifully like against udinese that day, I’m sure he’ll score 3@5 goals this year, even if it’s more it’s a bonus! and a lot of assists!
