‘End of the Scudetto protagonists’ – Costacurta makes feelings known to Milan star trio

Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez have been the two big boys for AC Milan in recent years, but this season, they have been anything but that.

This season has been a nightmare barring the occasional dream-ish result: the Bernabeu, the Supercoppa, the win against Inter at San Siro. However, the reasoning is much more difficult to identify.

Unfortunately, the issue is not solely down to coaching, or recruitment or players. Instead, it is a dangerous culmination of each factor, and now Milan are left in peril, needing yet another summer rebuild. Again though, due to the aforementioned issues, there is little to no faith in the relevant parties to get things right.

For some, the first step will be to add new faces to the management, whilst others may look elsewhere. Though for Billy Costacurta, the idea is very simple, and he voiced it to Sky (via Milan News) last night.

“This defeat sanctions the end of the Scudetto protagonists. If you sell Leao, Theo and Maignan, it may well be that you make a stronger team: it depends on how much they are worth, without the three of them, you can make a better team, Milan does not seem to me to depend so much on them.

“Nobody at Milan is indispensable. A couple of them I would keep and not sell, but I don’t think these three are indispensable.”

Considering the status of Costacurta, hearing such damning words about two of the Diavolo’s biggest stars of recent times is a huge worry, but it is not an unpopular opinion, far from it.

  1. 100% agree with him.
It’s time to move on but the replacements especially for Mike has to be solid replacements not some random players

    1. Plenty of good young and hungry goal keepers out there that wont cost too much, just like Mike used to be.

Go find one for 15-20 mil and offload Maignan for 40 if we can still even get that for him.

  2. Costacurta is a bit “controversial”, but yeah.. I really like the trio of stars we have and grateful that they were big part of the Scudetto-team. But selling them 2/3 or all of them doesn’t concern me, what concerns me is. What the management going to do with money coming for those players. In their own account because of failing qualifying for CL, buy a pair of 20m € players or plain and simple how construct the team around the future coach

  3. Milan will change coach possibly before this summer. If Tassotti comes in as interim coach to finish the season then it’s likely that Milan will go for Ancelotti to replace Conceição.

If so then only Mike Maignan should be sold out of the 3. Because Maignan is pass his best and very injury prone.

Ancelotti will work wonders with Theo, Leao and Pulisic.

    1. ” it’s likely that Milan will go for Ancelotti”

LOL. Likely?!!! No way in h3ll Ancelotti comes to the club with this mess of a management. Mark my words. NOT. COMING.

  4. Those 3 were never forefront leaders, Ibra, Giroud, Tonali and Kessie were those men.

They let the soul of this club go without suitable replacements

    1. This. Add Kjaer to the mix too. Romagnoli was a leader too. Plenty of hard-working, well-motivated adults. Not the pampered little kids we built the current team on.

  5. Selling or keeping these three won’t matter without a clear plan for next season. First it was Krunic that was the problem, then Calabria, then Bennacer, now Leao, Theo, and Mike. We can’t keep blaming players that delivered for us and giving the new boys a pass.
The main problem is the absence of a plan from the start, which led to a poorly constructed team, which led to confusion and frustration on the pitch.
