Costacurta names Milan’s three ‘irreplaceable’ players and claims Ibra is ‘no longer the decisive man’

By Oliver Fisher -

Former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta has revealed his belief that the Rossoneri currently have three players who are ‘irreplaceable’ for the team.

Milan have certainly started the new campaign well in the league having racked up an impressive eight wins in their opening nine Serie A games, and they will be looking to make it nine out of ten when they host Torino tonight. The young core has been front and centre of the successes again this season, showing the project is very much alive and thriving.

Costacurta was interviewed by Il Mattino and he spoke about the Rossoneri’s season so far, in particular picking out three names that have stood out to him, with his comments relayed by TMW.

“Tonali is the symbol, but in general they are a very solid team. To the list of irreplaceable players I add Theo Hernandez and Brahim Diaz. Without them they have shown more fatigue,” he said.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has continued his playing career past the age of 40 just as Costacurta did, and the former centre-back believes that he is not quite the match-winner Milan must rely upon but rather now he has been able to pass the baton.

“He is no longer the decisive man. He helped to make the group grow, but now they seem to be able to walk and run alone. Ibra certainly makes those around him play better, but there are some who are more decisive than him.”

  1. Agreed, this season, Maignan, Theo, and Tonali have been amazing and are crucial for our core. I would also add to that list Brahim as being crucial for us too as we’re a different team without him.

  2. Ibra has definitely regressed on many aspects due to age and injuries, but you can’t deny he’s still making decisive plays. The assist for Leao against Bologna was very important. I feel some of the other players are not that efficient yet. Ibra is very football-wise. I think that will help us this season against smaller teams or to break open the game if it’s locked.

  3. It’s way too early to judge Ibra this year. If he keeps getting injured, then perhaps his time has finally come, but there is still so much of the season left for him to make his mark, which I think he will.

  4. Good day

I am a Milan supporter l disagree for now we need Ibra he has instilled confidence in th team and th boys thy still need to learn a lot from th legend tactic th aggressiveness .
    He is a lion
Costacurta l really respect him one of th best defender of all time .
We need this generational talent to excel till th age of Costacurta Maldini or Zlatan
He should lead th team and win this year Seria A for us .
To conclude AC Milan it’s a high decorated club
I thank th leadership how thy have built th club .
