Criscitiello takes aim at management: “Conte is and will be Milan’s biggest regret”

Michele Criscitiello of Sportitalia believes that not even having a conversation with Antonio Conte in the summer about becoming the new head coach is ‘AC Milan’s biggest regret’.

Heading into the summer there were calls from a section of the fanbase to hire Conte given that he has multiple trophies to his name and was seen by some to be a demanding coach who could take the club to the next level.

It has even emerged in recent days that some leaders of the Curva Sud were working to try and persuade the club to hire him during the summer, something that Conte himself admitted that he is flattered by.

Fonseca meanwhile appears to be back under pressure after back-to-back defeats against Bayer Leverkusen and Fiorentina, while Napoli have a lead at the top of the table and are five points ahead of the Rossoneri.

Criscitiello published a column on Sportitalia – the website that he is the CEO of – and he took aim at Milan for not even listening to the ideas that Conte had during the summer.

“Conte had the strength to reunite an environment that had crumbled. He fixed the dressing room with everyone ready to flee far from Naples,” he said.

“He made Aurelio De Laurentiis spend a lot of money and achieved a record [in terms of results] that is now useless but makes you feel good during the week. Conte is and will be Milan’s biggest regret. Not even letting him sit down was an affront that the Rossoneri club could not afford “

  1. We should have cleaned house in the summer and hired Conte. I resisted Conte and other 3-back system coaches because I was mindful of our current personnel, and the fact that we have a bunch of wingers. But given the 6th season of the Lazy Leao and Theo Tantrums Show, lack of progress with Chukwueze (which was evident last season), and Okafor doesn’t seem to fit. But I was wrong. We should have gotten rid of Leao, Okafor and Chukwueze and brought in Conte, and used the money from those sales to fund the players he needed for his system. Napoli went from being a ship adrift to being clear title contenders just like that. Just like Juventus did when he took over in 2011.

  2. Master fans have spoken that conte is finished that he is a dinosaur and should stay away from Milan. Half of these fans would now cut out their left or right nut to get Max.
Who literally is a dinosaur and finished and balding.

If Milan management had half a brain they’d gone all in on conte..it was a smart move. Fonseca is the economic move. If he flops, Hey at least we didn’t lose a lot of money… losers think like that

      1. Conte only works if his club fully buys into his project and buys the players he wants. ADL had to do that after the colossal F up that was last season.

That would never happen if he came to Milan under RedBird as the Maldini episode taught us.
