Former team-mate reveals Cristiano Ronaldo background: “He asked me about Milan”

Former AC Milan player Vitali Kutuzov has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo asked for information about what it was like to play for the Rossoneri.

Kutuzov joined Milan from BATE Borisov back in 2001, becoming the club’s third Russian-speaking player after Andriy Shevchenko and Kakha Kaladze, but in his first season at the club he made four appearances off the bench.

He was loaned to Portuguese side Sporting CP for the 2002–03 season where played 30 games for them and scored 7 goals, and he also met Cristiano Ronaldo there who was rising up the ranks for the Lisbon club.

Kutuzov spoke to gianlucadimarzio.it about what was seemingly a fascination on the part of Ronaldo, who wanted to find out more about what it was like to play for the Rossoneri.

“We were two kids in a team of champions who had won everything. He was 17, I was 21. He asked me about Milan and how he was training with players of that caliber. He was hungry to arrive, even if now he is a different player: at the time he was more of a dribbler, today he is complete and scores in every way,” he said (via SempreMilan.it).

Ronaldo would end up going on to be linked with Milan back in the summer of 2017 when Yonghong Li had taken over ownership. Mirabelli and Fassone were tasked with signing big name players and the former has previously been outspoken about key things which happened during his time at Milan, such as having an agreement in place to sign Cristiano.
