Franck Kessie cannot justify his economic demands with his recent performances while Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s condition will dictate his renewal, a journalist has claimed.
Riccardo Cucchi – one of the historical voices of Rai – spoke exclusively to MilanNews about a number of different current topics related to the Rossoneri, beginning with the victory against Sampdoria yesterday which you could have had a flutter on with BoyleSports football.
Mr. Cucchi, what did you think of Milan’s victory against Sampdoria?
“Against a Sampdoria that appeared fragile I saw a Milan who at times also played good football. The Rossoneri may have produced a lot but achieved less than the opportunities they had,” he said.
“Overall, however, it was clearly a positive game. Leao’s goal was very nice, this guy has room for improvement and many technical qualities, certainly he is one of the best in Milan. I also liked Maignan’s pass, in football I think we are forgetting the long and precise pass like the one offered by the AC Milan goalkeeper.”
Will the victory obtained in the derby against Inter be decisive for the Scudetto fight?
“I believe that in February there are no matches that can be considered fundamental for the Scudetto fight. The season ends in May, so many things can happen between now and the end. What is important is that winning a derby like that, after having suffered a technical superiority from Inter for a while, shows that Milan believe in themselves and have temperament.
“It is not for everyone to be faced with an opponent who is playing better and to have the desire to play until the end and try them all. I think this is a very important element if you want to become a great team.”
Milan has also grown thanks to the contribution of Ibrahimovic. Do you think he will renew his contract?
“Ibrahimovic can only be given applause. What he has done in Italy and abroad is like a true champion. It is obvious that what will play more on his future will be the state of form and physical condition, on which he weighs a very heavy registry.
“Forty years of age are not few, it is rare to find players who are able to express themselves at high levels up to this age. The motivation and the technical quality are still there, it will be necessary to see how his body will respond.”
In addition to that of the Swede, the renewals of Kessie and Romagnoli are still in the balance. How will these two events end?
“It is difficult to know how the Kessie and Romagnoli affairs will end. It will be necessary to understand what they represent for Milan in the technical project. Recently Kessie hasn’t shone, probably even the economic request formulated is not consistent with his performances.
“This is why it seems to me a complicated operation and I am pessimistic. In my opinion Romagnoli remains one of the most important defenders, the main question will be to understand whether or not Milan want to invest in him again. I am more optimistic about his renewal.”
Why, in your opinion, did AC Milan complete only one signing transaction during the repair market?
“On the January market and the consequent disappointment, which more or less affected so many teams in Serie A, I would like to make a consideration: Italian football is experiencing a very severe financial crisis. There are few clubs that can spend and not everyone in Italy has this economic strength.
“I believe that Milan have operated with intelligence, not spending money on unproductive players for the future. I am convinced that in view of the summer market, Maldini, Massara and the entire management group are working on some profiles that are compatible with the budget and that give guarantees for the future.”
In view of the summer transfer market, which departments will the Rossoneri management work on?
“I think Milan will look for young players. The defensive department needs to be supported but above all I think it is necessary, despite the greatness of Ibra and Giroud, a forward with a few years less who can give continuity and goals. These are the two departments I would work on for the summer transfer market, considering that Milan are doing very well in midfield.”
