Udinese’s Curva Nord have published a statement confirming they intend to show ‘dissent’ towards Mike Maignan, after a banner was displayed in the city.
During last season’s trip to the Stadio Friuli, Maignan alerted his team-mates and the officials that he was getting racially abused after a warning had been broadcast, so the players went off the field to show solidarity.

Im a bit sympathetic to the Udine people. The word racist gas been thrown around so liberally in recent years, used to tarnish opposing views, it has lost all meaning. Goalies get stick in every game at every level without having meltdowns.

The type of comment I expected. It is not right (never mentioned otherwise) for a player to get abuse. But if you put large crowds of people close to someone that is trying to stop your team, naturally there will be a small few that will hurl abuse. A goalie has to expect it and be used to it, which majority of keepers seem to be doing. Maybe Maignon is just a bit more sensitive.
