GdS: Cutrone returns to face his beloved Milan – his struggles since leaving

There are always interesting sub-plots to every game, but the return of Patrick Cutrone to San Siro to face his beloved AC Milan is certainly one of the best ahead of tomorrow night’s game.

La Gazzetta dello Sport recall how Cutrone, when he was younger, used to literally sleep with an AC Milan ball and he screamed the names of his idols on the pitch after every goal, namely Inzaghi, Shevchenko and Kakà.

Every time Cutrone looks at his arm he sees the number 63 tattooed on him which was his old number at Milan, as well as the date of his debut: 21 May 2017, during Milan’s 3-0 win over Bologna.

He scored more than one hundred goals in the youth academies with the Rossoneri and he scored 18 goals in the 2017-18 season under Vincenzo Montella and Gennaro Gattuso. Now he is at Empoli where he has 2 goals in 21 games, offering fluctuating performance after a few bad seasons at Valencia, Wolves and Fiorentina.

The Cutrone of Milan has unfortunately never been seen again therefore, but there will still be something strange for him about returning to San Siro as an opponent, even if he already did so against Inter with Fiorentina and Empoli.

The memories of Cutro are still there: the decisive goal in the Coppa Italia derby and the many goals in vital situations, but the hope is that he does not come back to bite the team that he loved and still loves.
