Daniel Maldini comments on future and Leao comparison after first Monza goal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan loanee Daniel Maldini got his first goal for Monza yesterday, but he is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

Last summer, Milan made the decision to send Maldini on loan to Empoli, but then it became apparent that it would be cut short in January given it had not been a positive spell for the youngster, with not much playing time.

He was recalled and immediately loaned to Monza for the rest of the season, a club that the Rossoneri have a close relationship with given Lorenzo Colombo is there too, and he would sting his parent club last weekend.

The playmaker set up Warren Bondo for the goal that ended up winning Monza the game before Colombo added a fourth goal, and then yesterday Maldini scored his first goal for his new club.

Maldini spoke to DAZN after the 2-0 win against Salernitana, with his comments relayed by TMW.

After the assist against Milan, you got a goal…

“I’m happy to be here and to lend a hand to my team-mates. If the goal comes, good, but the important thing is to help the team and win.”

What is Palladino giving you as a coach?

“Talking to me and making me feel important is the thing that helps me the most and he is good at this.”

Is that what you missed in the first part of the season?

“I missed this relationship with the coach a bit, but I’m happy to be here.”

Has a message from your dad arrived yet?

“I haven’t seen the phone yet, but I imagine so.”

The first goal of a long series?

“I hope to help the team on various occasions.”

Maldini also spoke to DAZN after the game and he was asked about his future, with his comments relayed by PianetaMilan.

“Now I’m not thinking about it so much, I’m thinking more about feeling good physically and living in the moment. Leao-style goals? I don’t think so (smiles). Rafa scores a lot of goals like that, I’m a novice.

“Will my dad be emotional? No no, I don’t think so, but he will certainly be happy like the whole family.”

  1. Daniel’s goal looked more like the goals Jens Peter Hauge used to score for his short time at Milan than Leao’s. Also, Leao probably misses that and shoots that wide , high or straight at the keeper. Great finish by Daniel nonetheless 👏.

    1. i can’t imagine if he play as backup in Inter/ Juve/ Roma in the future, i though he can be someone like our Billy/ Ambro/ Abate/ even Bonera
