Daniel Maldini discusses his goal against Milan: “It was in the air”

By Isak Möller -

Daniel Maldini is currently on a season-long loan at Spezia and the youngster has slowly but steadily asserted himself in the squad. His one goal in the league, of course, came against AC Milan at San Siro.

Milan decided to send the 21-year-old out on loan this summer as playing time clearly is needed for him to continue his growth. Given that he had made a few appearances prior to the Rossoneri clash, it was typical that the first goal came then.

Speaking to DAZN, as cited by SempreMilan.it, Maldini was asked about what it was like to score against Milan. He reiterated what all of us were thinking when he managed to find the back of the net: it was written in the stars.

On the commentary for the goal against Milan…

“I heard it, maybe two or three times. That was enough for me.”

When did you find out you were going to play?

“I realised it two days before, based on the formation tried by the manager I made that conclusion. I was happy. As long as I play, I’m always happy.”

On the goal…

“It was a bit in the air, I felt it,” he concluded.

Hopefully, Maldini will continue to do well for Spezia and thus come back even stronger for the 2023/24 season. It won’t be an easy task, but now is the opportunity for him to show that he deserves the chance.

  1. “Hopefully, Maldini will continue to do well for Spezia…” Wait what? He’s barely getting playing time for Spezia. They should just bring him back early. At least he’d learn from older players and same playing time as last year at least. He only start was vs Milan. Other than that he’s been used sparingly off the bench for less than 30 mins. How is he doing well much less developing?
