GdS: Pioli strongly considering a more important role for Daniel Maldini vs. Napoli and Empoli

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is tempted to start relying more upon young forward Daniel Maldini while his attacking options remain limited, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanLive) reports how with Ante Rebic and Pietro Pellegri still out plus Rafael Leao and Oliver Giroud’s true conditions unknown, Pioli is thinking of Daniel Maldini as a possible option for the last two games of 2021.

The paper claims that the 20-year-old has a big chance of taking part in the match against Napoli as a substitute, perhaps to try to take advantage of the fatigue of the Partenopei defence by playing as a support striker.

He could even start from the first minute in the match on 22 December against Empoli to let one of either Brahim Diaz or Junior Messias rest. Maldini has played just 138 minutes across 8 appearances with his only start coming away against Spezia when he got his first goal for the club. He also got the assist off the bench for the equaliser against Udinese on Saturday night.
