4500 days after his dad made his last start for AC Milan, Daniel Maldini made his first (in the league) this afternoon as the Rossoneri faced Spezia. And it was a successful full debut, as the No.27 got on the scoresheet.
After a decent first half, it didn’t take long in the second for Maldini to leave a mark. In the 48th minute, he met Pierre Kalulu’s cross perfectly with his head and although the goalkeeper got a touch to it, it was simply too powerful.
You can take a look at the goal here, but it’s clear that it was the perfect start for Maldini. Above all, though, it was crucial for Milan as they were really searching for that goal. After conceding one, Brahim Diaz then scored the winner for the Rossoneri.
In an interview with DAZN after the game, as cited by MilanNews, Daniel Maldini spoke about his goal and the game as a whole. He stated that he still can’t believe what happened, which is understandable.

“I’m very happy, it was a very strong emotion. Luckily we took home the three points. I still can’t believe it.”

“He stimulates me a lot and gives me a lot of advice. It helps me a lot.”
On the memories with Ambrosini and on the emotions he had…
“Those were good times (laughs). I was excited even though I was calm. The teammates help me a lot and the coach too. I was calm. We took home the three points and this is important.”
On father Paolo…
“Dad is very demanding, he gives me advice and helps me, that’s only right.”
On when he knew he was starting…
“The coach told me the day before that I would be a starter by showing me the inactive balls. There was tension but my teammates helped me a lot. In the first half moving and finding opportunities was not easy while in the second I had a little more space.”
On what he needs to improve…
“I still have to understand the moments of the match well but having physicality helps, luckily”
