DAZN: Pioli fails to learn from past mistakes amid Milan’s dire rotation precedents

By Isak Möller -

Stefano Pioli made a total of five changes to the starting XI for last night’s clash against Empoli. A decision that was criticised from the start and one that, in the end, backfired for the manager.

AC Milan were held to a 0-0 draw by the guests at San Siro yesterday and the rotation doubts from before the game were highlighted once again. After a 4-0 win against Napoli, one would have expected Pioli to not make so many changes.

As highlighted by DAZN (via Pasquale La Ragione), this isn’t the first time Pioli has made five changes from one game to another. He has done it nine times before (including last night) and Milan only managed to win four of those games.

In short, Pioli made a mistake that he has made quite a few times before. On the other hand, one could argue that the rotation was needed and that Milan don’t have enough adequate backups, which falls on the management.

  1. If Milan beat Napoli in next 2 games he will earn revenue in 1 season in champions league, like it will gain in 2 season eliminating in group of champions league.

    1. Doesn’t save the next season though if we fail to secure the UCL spot. That’s 60-100M€ lost next season if no UCL. Think about that. Plus it makes harder to sign new players as people want to play UCL and not EL.

  2. Yes, the back-ups suck, but he’s continually given chances to Rebic and Origi, while ignoring Adli, CDK and the Primavera.

    1. In what way Pioli ignoring CDK when he gave him plenty of playing times either as starter or sub but the kid always failed to deliver.

And you expect the kids from primavera can do better than CDK, Diaz, Leao, Giroud, Theo, Tonali, Bennacer, or Krunic? Lmao you’re delusional.

I’m glad Pioli didn’t played anyone from primavera against Tottenham because Milan will failed to reach top 8 and you will blame him for playing unexperiences kids.

  3. A man with this level of arrogance will never learn.
Who would have thought that winning the title would have such a bad impact on his reasoning?

    1. Right! I remember that day at Sassuolo, something changed as he started celebrating before the game was wrapped. He treated Empoli like a team that didn’t need to be taken seriously and that attitude rubbed off on the players. There’s a reason the team never shows up for these games and it starts with Pioli
